I see the resemblance. It also looks a tad bit like J. Scott Campbell's art at the time too.

Good point.

On the topic of art, I really like Dan Shoening's art-style in ARAH #278.

Yeah. I really like that Snow-Job. On a side note, I'd like to see Jim Lee illustrate a Joe comic one day, I really like the Snake Eyes he drew for Batman Zeropoint.

If I could choose one artist to take on ARAH in 2023 it would be Schoening. Issue #278 is my favorite of the IDW run and successfully captures the look and feel of the first 50 issues of the Marvel run. I'd be thrilled if ARAH continued with these kinds of stories...

I'd reboot, but keep the tone of the early Hama stories.

If so, is that the direction the next publisher should take Joe? Maybe Liefeld and Bowers were onto something with Snake Eyes Deadgame with the sci-fi fantasy storyline? (Personally, I enjoyed the Deadgame story and Bower's writing, but would have preferred a different artist.)
It's a good point. Chopping up and shooting robots is much more palatable than humans.

As I understand it, Bower's writing was mostly stitching story and dialogue over Liefelds art rather than the more traditional story > script > art

That's what I'd do. Have Mike Costa, Joe Casey, or John Ney Rieber write it and have Dan Schoening, Steve Kurth, Robert Atkins, or even SL Gallant provide the artwork.

Not that big on Gallant. His layouts are great, but his males tend to be scrawny. The females are fine.

True. What Gallant does well is he makes action sequences seem real and well coordinated. I get your point about his males.

Now there's a manly man.
