This isn't a piss and moan thread so don't take it as such.
Been with the same company for 9 years was the first employee that was hired when the moved to this town. The job keeps me busy and has a lot of stress but it works for me since i work better with a heavy work load. Sadly its turned into a dead end job since the hiring of scottie the new factory supervisor. It wouldn't be so bad if he knew what he was doing and didn't belittle people in a attempt to control them which he admits to doing in attempt to put people in their place and gain control over them. I was told friday by scottie that i was way over paid for what i do and to never expect to go any further in the company and was demoted to working in the pit with the illegal immigrants starting monday. In 9 years i have only taken 9 days of vacation and had 2 sick days. one for a outpatient surgery and the other other was a diabetic black out or coma if you wanna call it that. On the few vacation days Ive taken it takes 2 men half my age to keep up with my work load so what are they gaining by sending me to the pit i will never know. Every one that does real work not office works does not want my job they say its to much work. I have worked with a broken foot, dislocated disk, concussions, pissed blood for a year before getting surgery done to fix that problem, driven a cdl truck all over Kentucky without the proper license with twice the load limit for the truck for years. The thing that scares me the most is for the last 20 years i have been a good law bidding citizen and followed all the rules that society says i must follow to be a good person. The last few months i been having really violent dreams about killing scottie that make me feel happy when i wake up from em. I have never killed anyone but was extremely violent till i was 19. I know i need to quit because of the dreams but I'm gonna be 39 monday and scared to death of starting over at this point in life. I might have 10 good years before cancer, stress or diabetes takes me and i don't want to spend it here anymore. I don't know what else to say i guess i needed to vent somewhere sorry. If any of the things i have said concern any mods or staff of hisstank I'm sorry and will accept being banned and all other consquences |

Headman actually said something non-spammy and real there.
Dude in I worked a job from 2003-2008 and hated it. Actually it wasn't the work as much as the people...and I almost got into a full on, fist fight with my foreman. Anyway. I hated the people but the money and benefits were ok, I was done at 3:30 pm everyday...etc. I started doing alot of side work and it really started talking off in the spring of 2008. It was taking off to the point that it overflowed into my weekdays...and once you work for yourself and make good money it gets WAAAAAAAAY too easy to call out sick during the week, work a few hrs for yourself and not have to deal with the people you hate. So I quit and continued doing my thing......then 2 things happened to me that really sucked. I got hurt and brought in a partner. Getting hurt wasn't that bad, disability was ok and I had enough saved. Partner was absolutely the worst mistake I ever made in my life. In the end, I couldnt go back to my old job, I cant legally make any money with this LLC and I have a joke of a current job and I basically look every single day and apply and upload resumes to jobs atleast 3-4 times a week. Though I learned alot with my business and I will do it again..if I had a time machine I would NEVER have quit that job...I woulda just been more patient. Hindsight is always 20/20. If you have something solid that wont cost you your sanity or your finances go for it...if your gonna "take a chance" please reconsider...it's getting better, but it's still hard out there. Good luck man. |

Im 43 and kinda starting over, I hate the er, cant get into the OR, so I finally decided to take a one year course in Surgical technology, basically you know the operating procedure and assist the surgeon. Im a nurse, so thats a bonus, Im also an er nurse and OR nurses dont like wildcats like me. We get the work done. Some OR nurses are good, some not so much. Im tired of the bs of trying to save my own ass while trying to help save patients and be patient with families that sometimes want everything at a moment's notice. Its not the work, its the people, I have decided to change and Im not looking back. Research, make a plan and implement the plan. Check with your partner or someone that will be honest with you for potential problems. Ive had those same dreams of getting murderous on someone, its time to go.

Yeah Headman has it right job market blows right now...ride it until they let you go.
Better than looking right now I know...I AM looking right now, and if you don't mind a job at Micky D's for piss salary then their are plenty of jobs...but honestly and I REALLY hate saying this because i HATE being on unemployment never have been in 23 years of working, but I'm making more money on unemployment than taking some crap job. |

Don't leave your current job unless you got something else lined up. I wish I knew of some good advice as to how to cope with the lousy supervisor. Is there anything you can get him on that could get him fired? The guy sounds a bit sketchy, so he may be doing stuff at work that would get him in trouble with HR if they knew about it.
Please don't do anything foolish. I know things seem bleak. Maybe if you start actively looking for another job you may start to feel better that you are taking action to improve your life. It will not get better overnight, but if you keep trying to improve your situation things will eventually get better. The worst thing to do is feel sorry for yourself and do nothing. |

You can reinvent yourself at anytime but it's alot harder when you deal with any kind of negative vibes...dying in 10 years is not a good idea man. |

If you line up a job first then go ahead and do what you need to. Getting a job can take well over a year...I know! Even a sucky job that pays still pays. Don't get in trouble and get fired for something that would keep you from getting unemployment, and don't just quit.
Unemployment benefits may be important for you in the future and a life-saver...so don't blow up your shot at them if you end up needing them.

One other thing I forgot to mention, is that your supervisor is probably threatened by you because you probably know more about his job than he does. He's probably threatened because of your experience and the fact that you are a good hard worker. So, he demotes you and discourages you from trying to get ahead because he feels threatened by you. Like maybe you would take his job. Just a guess, but I've seen it before.
