Went in to work today with a positive attitude ready to do my 8 and go home. Arrive at 8 am and immediately got told to start unloading a truck with 96 units of material weighing 450 to 520 lbs. each. I was told that this is normally a 2 man job since they have to be unstacked and put on skids and weighed. Was handed the keys to a forklift that's only firing on 3 cylinders, bad brakes, and slipping transmission and told me that i was on my own. So it took me 6 1/2 hours to unload by myself and get bitch at with them saying i should of been done in 2 hours. One of the friendly illegals told me it usually takes 2 of em 3 hours to unload a truck. So as i sit here with a slipped disk it official they are trying to kill me in my opinion. It is truly time to look for other work.
However, I see the dilemma because you'd still have to find another job. Good luck to you, sir. :( |

I took photos and got documentation from the truck driver so I'm gonna be contacting OSHA soon. Probably wont do any good but I'm pissed.

If you have something lined up for sure to replace that job, I'd put my two weeks in and move on. If not, I think its good to save up, cut spending, look hard as hell for another job, and see if you can get one. Someone with your experience can definitely benefit an employer. Best of luck.

This isn't a piss and moan thread so don't take it as such.
Been with the same company for 9 years was the first employee that was hired when the moved to this town. The job keeps me busy and has a lot of stress but it works for me since i work better with a heavy work load. Sadly its turned into a dead end job since the hiring of scottie the new factory supervisor. It wouldn't be so bad if he knew what he was doing and didn't belittle people in a attempt to control them which he admits to doing in attempt to put people in their place and gain control over them. I was told friday by scottie that i was way over paid for what i do and to never expect to go any further in the company and was demoted to working in the pit with the illegal immigrants starting monday. In 9 years i have only taken 9 days of vacation and had 2 sick days. one for a outpatient surgery and the other other was a diabetic black out or coma if you wanna call it that. On the few vacation days Ive taken it takes 2 men half my age to keep up with my work load so what are they gaining by sending me to the pit i will never know. Every one that does real work not office works does not want my job they say its to much work. I have worked with a broken foot, dislocated disk, concussions, pissed blood for a year before getting surgery done to fix that problem, driven a cdl truck all over Kentucky without the proper license with twice the load limit for the truck for years. The thing that scares me the most is for the last 20 years i have been a good law bidding citizen and followed all the rules that society says i must follow to be a good person. The last few months i been having really violent dreams about killing scottie that make me feel happy when i wake up from em. I have never killed anyone but was extremely violent till i was 19. I know i need to quit because of the dreams but I'm gonna be 39 monday and scared to death of starting over at this point in life. I might have 10 good years before cancer, stress or diabetes takes me and i don't want to spend it here anymore. I don't know what else to say i guess i needed to vent somewhere sorry. If any of the things i have said concern any mods or staff of hisstank I'm sorry and will accept being banned and all other consquences I should point out up front that BOTH these guys had less education than I did and yet were in positions of power, odd to say the least, but also explains some of thier tactics. My supervisor thought the best way to motivate people was public humilation, this came after I was denied vaction time and later denied time off for my brother-in-law's death (both of which are illegal, but also beside the point), I was denied bonuses my coleeges were allowed, ect, ect. I could bore you with the details but the point is I was getting the shaft and hated it. The GM did a lot of illegal and immorral things. For example he tried to fire a girl for having a baby a month earlier than her scedualed "leave" cause she didn't show up to work (which violates FMLA and of course she sued and won). In my case he tried to get me to work on my day off when I had scedualed a Doctor's appointment. I had purposefully secedualled this appointment on my day off in order not to miss work and explained this to my supervisor who told me "No Problem" When I got to work next we had a meeting in which the GM literally tried to humilate me for every little thing I had done wrong at the company the entire time I was there (which, in my defence, no one is perfect and if you go over someone with a fine tooth comb you can find things they made mistakes on). Anyway if I tried to defend myself I got blasted like a child (in fact I have seen most parents treat thier kids better when the kids are in deep trouble). After about 5 minutes I quit trying to defend myself and let the jerk say what he wanted. After the meeting I went outside, had a smoke, thought about it for a sec and realized my life was better than this. I left, no notice or conversations, just told some people "bye, it was nice knowing you but I can't live in an atmosphere like this, that was my final straw." Keeping in mind at that point I had gone two years without missing a single day of work. As it turned out my leaving like that caused my GM to get a ton more crap from his bosses as, apparently, he was having some issues with turnover rates. The big question was "Why would an employee suddenly leave after two years of not missing a single day of work?" Anyway I only heard about that years later. I went back to college and I get my bacholor's degree this may, I am 40 this year as well, so I get the age thing. I have since run into colleges who stayed after I left, they were either fired or they are miserable. When I tell them how well I am doing they are noticeably upset cause they know they are stuck there. My point, it is smart to have something in line when you bolt (as I had school in line) but yes, you should. The times of long term with one company are over anyway, people change carriers all the time and on adverage a person can expect to change jobs at least 5 times (many more so) in thier carriers. |
