I would suggest getting a dog to anyone who is worried about a break in. I'm a glass guy, I mostly fix windows for a living. I have to repair the damage from break ins all the time. The one common factor with almost all of the victems is that they do not have a dog. There are lots of reasons we have shared our lives with dogs for thousands of years, but security is one of the main reasons.

yeah, dogs are excellent crime deterrents. Well, large dogs. Or particularly loud dogs. But i would still keep the roombroom handy.

1, why not have an armed guard riding "shotgun" with the cabbies in areas where there is a lot of crime or potential for it. 2, if we, as a society, would cut with all the bleeding-heart bullshit and actually HUNG people in a public square, crime would stop by a shitload. Instead of sending people to "club med", lets actually PUNISH these piece-of-shits who commit heinous crimes, random acts of violence, etc. Its not some poor cabbies fault (who has a wife and kids and is trying to put food on the table), that some asshole who grew up in the ghetto and never had a dad or Christmas is pissed at the world and feels it owes him, so he robs, beats or murders the guy for a hundred bucks. We need to make an example of these shitbags and execute them instead of giving them free room & board, meals, exercise equiptment, a job that pays and a fucking college education. THATS the problem with this country and crime, plain and simple. This touches a nerve with me today because at 2 o'clock this morning I had a "prowler" on my porches, try the doors and windows. I was sitting on my stairs with the 12 gauge and 00 buckshot. Wife called the cops and they showed up in about 1 minute (small town) and found footprints. I didnt sleep at all last night, thinking about my wife and 3 year old son right before Christmas. It woulda been the last house the doucher broke into, thats for sure. as far as your attempted break in if I was you id feel lucky the cops showed up at all. Budget cutbacks here mean if that happens in stockton and you tell them the peron went away they wont bother showing up. seriously.

Our dog just passed away in April, but it wouldnt have mattered, she would have been snoring so loud I wouldnt have been able to hear the person outside, lol.
You know, I consider myself lucky because of where I live, and I live where I do for those reasons. We just dont have crime here (even Maine in general). I think a big part of it is everyone has a gun. Simple as that. Ive got stickers (4x6) near all 3 doors that show a person in the crosshairs of a scope and says "Nothing inside is worth dying for." And I mean it as do most. But we've lived in this town for 10 1/2 years now, only heard of 3 houses being broken into (counting the 2 I mentioned earlier). Who knows what the person was doing, just a guess that he was hoping it was unlocked. Everyone up here used to leave their houses unlocked all the time, many still do. Up until about 6 years ago Id leave for the day to go fishing and we'd only shut the screen door. Its just the way we live up here. Break-ins in Maine in general are very rare, let alone where I live. The majority of it is drug related. I dont have any stats, but Id say 80% or better. Any time I see it on the news, that was the issue. Anyone who lives North of Augusta knows what Im talking about. |

I hear what your saying, and agree with alot of what you're saying, but Public hangings in front of City Hall sounds like Nazi Germany...a tad barbaric, if you get me...a little uncivilized...lets just get a little harsher in the legal system and make Death Row quicken the pace with taxpayer eating slimeballs, we don't wanna end up like China or something...

There is a picture on Rotten.com of a taxi driver that had his head blown off by either a 12 guage or double barrel shotgun. Vest wouldn't have done jack for him there.
