Just wondering about actual Real American Heroes here on the Tank.
Either past or present, Vets, Active Duty, Reserve, or National Guard. I'll also throw out there for local heroes like, police, firemen, nurses, etc. My wife is a nurse, and I know that they get little credit, for what they do and put up with. I would also be interested in knowing about any of our overseas brothers or sisters that may have or are currently serving in their Militaries. I actually served in the Army reserve as an 11B, from 90-91, when I did an inter-service Transfer to the TAR (Training Administrative Reserves, active-duty support to a reserve unit) Navy where I spent 8 years as an AMH (Aviation Structures and Hydraulics). That actually prepared me for my current career as an A&P (aircraft mechanic). Still sometimes miss the service, and am thankful for the oppurtunities that it opened up for me. |

Prior Marines, 5 years.
Current Army, deployed to Iraq. I don't like being called a hero. The REAL heroes didn't get to come home. |

People have been using the word Hero in describing me for the past few years.
In 08 my mom got cancer and I took her to every chemo, and radiation appointment she had, at the cost of one job. When it became worse I took care of her in my home until she passed away in 09, shortly after I did the same for my grandmother this year she passed. I don't much feel like a hero, but people have been calling me that for what I did in caring for them. To me...I just did what had to be done. |

I wish. I did everything I could for 2 years to go Navy EOD but due to color deficiency I couldnt get in.
Ive got about 8-10 family members that are active and another 8-10 retired, from every branch. Some Coast Guard, some Army & Marine reserve, some active Army & Marine, etc EVERY branch possible. 1st cousin is Air Force in Afgan right now & his brother was in some serious shit in Irag in a Stryker unit a few years back. Another Navy Operation Specialist, Marine Gunner, Army weapons specialist (not sure his exact title), etc., etc., etc. Ive got retired unlces that were in 'Nam & Korea. Ive got a huge military family and appreciate everything our military does. I call my wife a hero too, as she is a teacher in a crappy public school system in a poor, old-school type mill town who is really making a difference. 7 years on the job and she was nominated for teacher of the year in Maine, one of only 18 out of 17 thousand, roughly. She makes a difference in kids lives, and THATS a "True American Hero" in my book. |

I served in the Army back in the early 90's. I'm no hero, though. We've got quite a few Vets and some active duty, and reservists here. It's a pretty cool thing.
