For my fellow metal heads out there. Let's have a moment of silence, followed by a moment of some fucking screaming for the Father of Death Metal.
YouTube - Death - Lack of comprehension

Amen to this thread.
Anyone that doesn't know of Chuck's work should. Anyone that doesn't own Symbolic should. Saying that Chuck changed the way I "listened" to metal is an understatement. Not only did he do that, but he is a MAJOR influence on how I write lyrics in my own band. He changed death metal and Death actually broke the barriers and pushed the limits musically. Especially in metal where every damn thing has a label, a sub label and it's own genre...Chuck and Death are simply extreme metal and incredible music. Not only that but a shout out to him personally for being a humble dude, a "good guy" and from people that I've talked to that hung out with him personally "a great fucking guy". If you think all "death metal" is the same take a listin to "Voice From The Soul" before posting in this thread. Chuck makes you want to write music! BTW did you ever see the graffiti mural that someone made someplace in South America?? It's giant spray painted artwork of Chuck and Dime together....the artist is still unidentified. |

I can't find a larger pic :\ I bought Human when I was all of 14 years old and it changed the way I play music. That shit was so fast and heavy, way before the days of pro-tools and these POS drummers that can't do half the shit they play in the studio without the help of a robot.

Chuck was an awesome guitar player and Ive been a Mantas/Death fan since 1989 when I discovered them.
One thing that really makes me feel a connection to Chuck is his way of thinking/philosophy. I love living life and Id love to live forever if it were possible too, as did Chuck. In a way, Chuck will live forever, and hopefully he knows it. He wasnt your "typical" death metal guy, writing about religion, death, suicide, etc. He always said his music was more like a "B" horror movie. Now that Im older I can appreciate and like that he wasnt too serious, writing about Satanism, politics, etc., in a manner akin to most death metal bands. Ill be playing some Death later on when Im working for sure. |

You found the artwork...and I thought I hid it so well...
Death went backwards..I feel they got better as they went. The early stuff including Mantas was still much different than the run of the mill Tampa Bay stuff for it's time but I thought the latter part of the catalog it just got really..."deep." Individual Thought Patterns, Symbolic and Sound Of Perserverance are just guitar masterpieces and it's that shit where you sit and read the lyrics and just feel em. I mean "Empty Words" are you kidding me?! When I read those lyrics, I guess I had crap going on...that just hit me. I love Symbolic so much, I can't find an album out there where Gene Hoglan killed it the way he did with Death....I really don't think there is a "label" to put that record under. Unless you just call it "Awesome." On a side note, did anyone see the videos that BC Rich had up for his sig guitar?...The one with his nephew and the original guitar was cool. Some Dr. offered a ridiculous price for it--it's still with his family, very nice. |
