I'm just going to make a few points:
Ensure that you are getting EVERYTHING that meat normally supplies in your diet. A comedian once said it, and it's sort of true- there aren't many healthy vegetarians. It's because some people subscribe to the thought that "meat=protein", which is true in the same way that "clothes=cotton". I'd honestly suggest sitting down with a health care provider and talking about it with him and forming a diet plan. I know it sounds cliche, but you'd be surprised. You don't want to be "the guy with the disgusting farts". I happens to a lot of vegetarians who don't eat properly. I don't believe in animal cruelty, either. Quite frankly, I despise it. However, you have to understand that there is a cycle of nature, and animals are food to other animals. Even hunters that catch hell are part of the cycle- why do you think hunters are only allowed to kill bucks most of the time? To take out the alpha males and allow other males to breed. Also, hunting actually is part of the ecosystem. Be advised that a lot of leather is taken from cows that have been used for other purposes- even in some cases, to feed hungry people with no other meals. It's also a very human process, as I understand it. Then again, a cow ran me down and cracked some of my ribs once, so f*ck cows. |

The only problem I have with vegans & vegetarians are the ones who try to push their "agenda" on others. Groups like PETA who are anti-hunting, yet have idiotic, hypocritical, "spotlight" members like Corey Feldman on TV wearing $500 dollar leather shoes arguing that its not the same thing. Really, $500 dollar shoes and feeding hungry people isnt the same thing!? No shit idiot, except youre backwards in your thinking.
You cant be healthy without protein, and protein comes from animals mostly. Eating other animals is one of the most natural things on the planet, and most of the animals on this planet eat meat in one way, shape or form. Hell, cows and deer are technically herbivores, but theyll eat meat if you give it to them. Ive seen it, I grew up on a farm. I can understand, to an extent, the people who are cautious about chemicals and hormones going into their food, but I have yet to see any real studies show that those are valid, factual concerns. Im an avid hunter myself and its probably the best way to get safe, all natural meat to my family. It also puts money into conservation efforts like dam removal, habitat conservation, purchases and repairs of land, etc. The money I spent on my licenses and equipment goes a LONG way in protecting animals actually. We keep populations in check and protect low populations at the same time. I also look at it like this: Man has basically bred the animals we eat to our standards. We've manipulations DNA with selective breeding and without that, todays cows and chickens wouldnt exist. If those animals live for the sole reason of feeding us, I have no issue with that. Animal cruelty is COMPLETELY different and a totally different topic. I do not think the animals we raise as a society are treated poorly and I see no cruelty in raising animals simply to feed us. Its a great way to feed people because honestly, if everyone was to take up hunting tomorrow, Id be shit out of luck. There arent enough wild animals to feed everyone and breeding cows, chickens and fish to feed us is genius, as long as those animals arent abused and are killed in a quick, humane fashion. Ive got no problem with people who dont eat meat for whatever reason, just dont try and tell me its healthier for me, or I need to stop doing it because you dont believe in it. When I grow up I'm going to Bovine University! Make no mistake. A cow will kill you and everyone you love if given the chance.
Seriously, though, I am not a vegetarian, but I am all for eating healthy and I try to get the best food I can afford especially with meats. Regular supermarket meat is the worst as far as chemicals such as hormones and antibiotics. It's not only that, but the cleanliness of the meat is very questionable. Believe it or not the standards as far as bacteria and cleanliness is way better in the fast food industry than it is for supermarkets. The fast food companies hold the meat packers to the fire because they buy a ton of meat and it is a big deal if one of their customers gets sick. It's not about keeping people safe mind you, it's about the fear of getting sued and looking bad in the public eye and losing business because of it. Then you got the supermarkets that will take expired meat and re-date it to keep it on the shelf longer. And, the diseased cows that can't be sold for meat, but are ground up and fed back to the other cows. And, if the guy at the meat processing plant messes up and spills the intestinal contents on the meat as he is cutting it up they try to hide it because he doesn't want to get fired for ruining the meat which costs them money obviously. Read the book Fast Food Nation and you will see what I mean. :( |
