I usually stop by the Quick Trip gas station/C-store to pick up a drink at lunch time. Today, for some reason, I paid more attention to just how big the drinks are getting. I mean, even on my thirstiest day a 32 oz. drink fills me up. I can't imagine getting myself a 52oz bad boy. Have you seen the size of that thing. It's freak'n HUGE! Heck, I drink a 32 oz and I'm already pissing like a race horse, so I imagine I'd be hurting something awful if I tried a 52 oz drink. Not to mention the sugar rush. Normally I drink a mix of 3/4 unsweetened iced tea and 1/4 sweetened.
What's the largest drink size you usually get at a gas station or restaurant? I could've sworn that I've seen a 64 oz drink someplace. |

Wow, thats alot of soda! considering the volume of sugar you are getting, it's also putting the kungfu grip on your kidneys as I think soda's also a diuretic. I am trying to cut my soda intake in steps...bad habits are hard to break!

When I was addicted to Mt. Dew, I would ONLY buy it by the 2ltr. bottle when I was out. I would go through something like 15-20 cans a day when I was at home. Thank god that was like 8 years ago. I got away from soda totally for like 5 years. Now, I buy the regular size soda bottle (16 or 20oz.?) and I wont even drink it in a day. I have about 8oz. of soda (usually Pepsi) most days with lunch, and thats it. Now, if we're talking some serious fishing or hunting for the day, Ill take along a regular sode and about 64oz. of Tang and Gatorade, 32oz. of each, and drink almost all of that. When youre like me, and in shape 210, wearing and carrying 50-80lbs of gear, you SWEAT a LOT, and drinking something like Tang or Gatorade is essential to not getting sick.
In the middle of the summer when its like 90+ here and I do a lot of fishing (this is all hiking and wading mind you), Ill take along 2 64oz Gatorade bottles and Ill have to pace myself or Ill drink them both too fast. But again, youre talking some SERIOUS work in HOT weather. Soda really sucks. Bad habit to break, but MAN youll feel a HELL of a lot better. Last edited by bigvig; 11-11-2010 at 03:08 PM.. |

Before I found out that I was type 1 diabetic, I could put down 4 or 5 2 liters of Mt Dew a day. Actually, didn't matter what it was, milk, water, O.J. whatever I would just drink.
After my diagnosis just under 2 years ago, I drink, like maybe a liter for water a day now. and 1 Coke 0 for lunch.

Yeah, a while back I made a conscious effort to not drink carbonated drinks. Most of the time it's unsweetened tea or the occasional sweet tea. But, like I mentioned I got to cut it with 3/4 unsweetened tea. I find that I don't really miss soda, and when I do drink it once in a blue moon, it's extremely sweet to me. I'm not diabetic, but all that sugar is not good regardless.

Too much?
I can give you an exact too much time...when your vision is blurred and you go to the doctor and find out that you now have diabetes. At least that was when it did it for me. |
