As a Patriots fan, I thank Donovan and his lack of cardiovascular endurance for the Patriots Super Bowl victory back in '04. I remember watching that game and wondering why the hell Donovan was moving so slowly to the line of scrimmage after each play during the 2 minute drill. Any amount of hustle and they could have gotten into field goal position to tie. Instead he loafed it and they lost.

I heard that Redskin looked at Jamarcus Russell for their answer. Give me a break....

I've watched McNabb play his entire career and I have to agree with Shanahan. The 04 Superbowl is the perfect example and I was dunbfounded when nobody seemed to notice that he was strolling through that drive.

I am a lifelong Eagle fan and yes I can tell you the 04 Super Bowl was a pretty maddening experiance.
Having said that, guys like McNabb, Favre...you know what youre gonna get, you take the good with the bad. Yes you can drop an anvil on Farve's head and he's gonna come back and throw some TD's...he's also gonna throw some INT's. McNabb has never been particularly good in end of game scenarios...but in this scenario you don't undermine your team leader. You don't confuse the locker room and send mixed messages. You knew what you were getting and quite frankly the system you had before was laughable at best. Did you think #5 now into his mid 30's was actually gonna get "faster" in a 2 min drill? The idea that Rex Grossman knows the technicalities of a 2 min drill better is just an asshole statement. Like a 2 min is some kind of complex thing...in fact, it's probably the least technical thing in your package. Not saying he was great in that scenario, but you don't take a guy out like that. He won't be there next season, and the Redskins won't be in the playoffs with Grossman or Russell's fat ass. I think both Mike Shannahan and Brad Childress are retarded. |

I heard that the McNabb vs Shannahan thing has been going on since the beginning of camp. It just came to a head in the end of the game. Shanny was using any excuse to send a message.

As a Skins fan the sickening thing is you dealt away (yet another) high draft pick, (this a being a Second round pick) - for a QB who you've disenfranchised at best with benching him with 1:45 left in a winnable game.
This will go down as the second worst trade, giving away a 2nd round pick for the Skins though - the worst is TJ Duckett for a 2nd rounder. Now benching Campbell at halftime last year in favor of Todd Collins by Jim Zorn was a shit storm last year as well locally. But at least Jim Zorn didnt insult the fans' football intelligence like the Oranged Skinned Bucked Tooth used car salesman act we (as Redskins fans) have been subjected to the last few days. How about holding your own child accountable for not being able to run an offense without Schaub & Andre Johnson? How about that? And how about in the future, Mr. Orange Leather Face, how about fielding more than 2 RBs on your roster when you play a NFL FOOTBALL GAME. I'm on Donovan's side in this situation, even though in my heart of hearts, I KNEW that the Lions were gonna make the plays to win the game and not the team I was cheering for.

I agree with all who feel Donovan has gotten a raw deal. And I think this would be a bigger story on ESPN if Randy "Straight Cash Homey" Moss didn't become the turd in the punchbowl at the Viking's party.
A veteran like Donovan deserves to finish a game. If he doesn't handle the 2 minute drill well, then shame on the coaching staff. In Denver, Rat-face Shanahan stuck with Cutler, who is a .500 quarterback with a strong tendancy for a multi-interception game. Yet Donavan, who has taken Philly to IIRC 4 NFC title games and a Super Bowl gets pulled because he's a little winded? Come on. I am not a Donovan fan but I commend him for taking the high road and keeping it about the team when asked about getting pulled. He could have easily fired off on Shanahan and blown up that locker room, but chose to be a team player. So what now? Shanahan's going to hang his hopes on a over-rated sloth in Jamarcus and a backup who lucked into a Super Bowl in Rex Grossman? Best of luck Skins fans ... at least your not Buffalo. |
