it also clearly sounds like a retail store (walmart, target) these place sell costumes, just use the argument that you are trying to boost sales by advertising ideas, by wearing one
its all about $ & #'s anyway... if your looking to be cared about by an employer, you will have to start your own business.

But that's the thing, it's just one day. It didn't really matter as long as we followed the rules. Why is this just coming up now? We had to convert to a strict dress code two years ago, and it didn't matter then. It's just that we're getting our perks taken away, and even if they don't listen, I still think I need to say something. And I'm quite sure I'm not alone in this...
So now I'm just stating finally that even if they don't realize they're doing it to themselves, the collective has to say something. And I'm choosing to say something. If not, I'm going to start taking my vacations around Halloween. If I can't celebrate the holiday I love at work, I might as well not be scheduled.

Playing Devil's Advocate
There are quite a few people that do not celebrate Halloween and do not very much appreciate the attention that it's given. It's NOT the most PC holiday to begin with. So all you need is one person to get their panties in a bunch over it and they do away with it because it's easier for them to defend why they don't do it as opposed to why they do. |

Well then without knowing what it is that you do, the argument is rather mute then.

Can you please not mention it by name? I don't want to be in the position of the girl known as "Sky Queen" who got fired over her gripes over working at Delta being posted online, which is why I'm not mentioning the name.

So all you need is one person to get their panties in a bunch over it and they do away with it because it's easier for them to defend why they don't do it as opposed to why they do. Having said that for 5 years I worked for a company that built "explosion proof" forklifts and equipment. No, you can't drive over a mine but they wont generate a spark so you can use them to load arms on to Navy ships, chemical plants etc. Privately owned but a large enough place with about 10 guys working in the shop alone...I was doing much of the sandblasting, light welding, body and paint applications...etc. This is NOT "easy" work. Cold shops...hot shops...grinding steel, fumes...and steel is heavy! The owner was basically an "evil Michael" from the Office. He was a thief and a fat obnoxious slob. Rumor has it he told one of the mechanics to wait outside of his office...he wouldn't "understand" the artwork he had hanging on his walls. Did I mention he was an obnoxious slob? Ok...so this is my gripe: Christmas time would come, and our local radio station would go to the holiday format...we were never allowed to have music in the shop. I thought it was a safety issue..this is the real issue...the owner would come out and set a radio on the table so we could have the Christmas music..and then go back in his office. This was his way of letting us know "he was the boss" and "today you can have your Christmas music". When he and the foreman would get into it....he would walk out, unplug the radio and bring it into his office.....as if he was punishing us. I made 18.50 an hr there and worked 7-3:30 everyday. I was a good worker and even though my foreman and I didn't always see eye to eye..when I left he told me "you always got done what I needed you to...good luck buddy." I left to start my own business...when I went to the owner's office to tell him "goodbye and thank you for the opportunity"...he told me "take care" without even looking at me. I worked there 5 f'ing years. People are assholes and "coporate" and "human" don't go seem to go together these days. Now, in all honesty? Towards the end I was so jaded and hated the place and the people SO MUCH that yes...I f'd off ALOT. I just think if you hire a good worker, a go getter..and treat them like a human being..you would be amazed at what you can get out of them. These big corps don't give a crap about you.....go ahead and quit..they'll have you replaced in a day. If any business owners or CEOs read this? Seriously...humming along a few Christmas carols while you work will actually BOOST morale. |
