I surely did I spent 45 min reading before assembling. Good news off hand got my money back from Target stopped at Lowe's, got me one of those industrial strength shelves made of industrial strength hard plastic. Read 1 step instructions and took 5 minutes to assemble. It's bigger than other shelf and was 10 bucks less than the craptacular shelf I got earlier. This one being a bit larger got room to display all my joes/cobras and customs. May get a 2nd later to put vehicles on.

It was $35. It wasn't 'easy' to put together, but it's solid and it fits it's need, perfectly. I just couldn't figure out why the parts key was on one page, at the beginning, rather than using the corresponding letter-sticker on each page that calls for it, when it calls for it. We had to crawl out from under a pile of screws, particle-board pieces, styrofoam dividers and tools every time we turned the manual page. It was a pain in the ass, but was also worth it in the end. -No pun intended.

There is a place where in town that makes wood furniture beautiful. That's where I buy mine. $200 for whats about a nice 7'x 2'x1' shelf.
Better than spending money on Target crap.

Whatever it was you bought, probably good bet it wasn't even good as cheap furniture.
My sister's ikea furniture has lasted for 10 years and going so far. |

Here is a quick fix. Buy the metal shelf pegs with a screw hole on the support side. They replace the cheap plastic pegs that you stick in the pre-drilled holes in the inside of the bookcase. Now after replacing, use a nail set to assist you placing small wood screws in those holes connecting them to the shelf and making the bookcase less likely to warp or crash land. This worked on my shelves that are loaded with books.
