So, I've gone from spending my parent's money on any and everything to being much more discerning; especially after I realized that these lines and new versions and new characters and new directions, would A) never end and B) never live up to my expectations. My appreciation for these franchises are very specific and when the best way to keep them going is to appeal to everyone under the sun by shallowing the waters to broaden the river. But, I also hope everyone else gets exactly what they want from their hobby. |

Up until 1988 I collected the toys of my childhood but I didn't army build or even try to be a completest. Then in 1986 I started collecting comic books. It was comic books that started my completest collecting madness. I sold off most of my childhood toys for comics in the late 1980s.
Then in about 1989 the Batman Movie started my toy collecting madness. After that came more DC action figures and the Toy Biz Marvel figures. Then in late 1992 I started collecting Star Trek by Playmates. Then Aliens and Predator. Soon came ToddToys/McFarlane. Then 1995 came and Star Wars took so much of my money. Thanks George Lucas. The toy collecting eventually went full circle and I started buying GI Joe off the shelf from about 1992 until today. Didn't start recollecting the ARAH until about 2001. That's a toy collecting madness that is a lot more out of control than any of my 1990s collecting. It's some of my choices of what to collect during the 1990s and 2000s that I wish I could change. Way too much on Star Wars, Simpsons, Muppets, Spawn. And so much of that stuff is worthless when trying to unload and recoup some funds. I loved the 1989 Batman movie. I am a big fan of Tim Burton.

Punisher, Deadpool, Cable, and Captain America, no joke.
The first favorite toy I had as a kid that I can remember was the Captain America my parent's got me and the first I really wanted Punisher my brother got. I loved that 7-point articulated, shield launching Cap but I also wanted that cap popping Punisher which my brother never played with, and he wouldn't let me play with it either. So ever since that day I was always on the hunt for a Punisher figure, never found one for years. Never found one, had other toy's to play with, then years later my grandparents took my cousins, my brother, and I to Sears and there was the first 90's Deadpool, possibly one of the coolest toys I had ever seen and played with. They bought it for me and it was the best toy ever. Shortly after that my brother told my mom that this toyline was cool so for my birthday she bought me the first 90's Cable, 2nd best toy ever. Over time I bought almost every Cable, Deadpool, and Captain America released from toybiz until Marvel Legends. Sometime between then I finally got my first Punisher, it was the re-released/repacked Punisher from the talking backpack line that had a brown plastic trench coat instead of the backpack. Then stopped collecting about the time Marvel Legends came out, bought Punisher though, will always buy Punisher. Then started up again when Sigma 6 came out, I thought they were the coolest looking/most durable figures I had ever seen, they were like the Tonka toys of action figures in my eyes. Then stopped after that and now it's ROC/POC, MU, and very few SW, never have been and don't think I ever will be a completist. I always had Joes but they were never a toy that I sought out, I never knew who I wanted and the thumbs/crotches always broke before the month was over. |

As for toy collecting it would have been 1995. I was at work when a friend came running in yelling that new star wars toys were out. I left work right then and bought a stormtrooper and have had the toy bug ever since.

The toy bug seems to have bitten a lot of people around that time. I was very excited about the new Star Wars figures back then also.

I was born 1974, so Star Wars has been a lifelong interest. Joes came on board about 1983. He man, transformers, mask, comics; they were all around at sometime. Star Wars and GI joe will always be around for me in some form.

Actually, as stupid as it sounds, it was the Fast and the Furious movie that started it all.
After the movie came out, my dad was wandering around Target one day while I was shopping for some stuff for college (I was leaving in the fall), and bought me a little orange Supra, because he knew I liked the import scene. He and I started picking up 1:64-scale import cars that summer, and when I'd swing by the toy aisle to see what was there, I started noticing a few cool action figures. After I started college, I mostly just kept a rotating display of a figure or two on my desk. After all, I didn't want to be one of those collecting nerds, but a few toys caught my eye every now and then, so I picked them up as I noticed them. Fast forward a few years, and SOTA first started releasing their Street Fighter line. I was working at Game Stop, and we got in the first wave. I thought they were the coolest things I'd ever seen, and decided to collect the whole line. So I went online looking for more info about the SOTA Street Fighter figures and wound up hanging out at The Fwoosh a lot due to their connection with the guys at SOTA back then. I just thought it was cool to actually talk to guys in the business, and actually have some input when it came to the development. That was my intro to collecting a whole line of figures. Hanging out at The Fwoosh is what got me into Marvel Legends, which I also collected fairly heavily for a while. Primarily X-Men and Avengers. Man, do I miss my DETOLF displays of those guys. Then, pictures popped up for the two 25th GI Joe 5-packs, and that was the beginning of the end of my sanity. I started hanging out here at the recommendation of one of the Fwooshers (can't remember who now, but thank you whoever you are!), and started trading alot on the 'Tank to build my blue-shirt army. My collection grew, and so did my involvement here. The End.
