Easy Star Wars.
My dad took us to see the first Star Wars film in NYC (one of the few good times he was around for before he split). Star Wars started me off on the toys, just as Star Wars was wrapping up G.I. Joe came out...and then Transformers I was all in comics, cartoons and toys. I was done. After Star Wars had wrapped I was jones'n for something SciFi related and I found Star Trek. After the Joe and TF comics ended I found X-Men comics starting with the X-Cutioners Song cross over. Which gate wayed in the Mega event The Death of Superman which hooked me on GL for a long while. The Image revolution kicked in and I found the Wildstorm universe. Of which I bought as many title I could. I also found 2099, and the Marvel UK books...this was likely the height of my comic collecting days. Eventually Joe ended, TF ended, I eventually fell out of comics, or in many cases the books fell out and ended. Thanksfully Joe and TF made comebacks, which is all I basically collect in toys or comics these days. I did buy Star Wars when it came out again but stopped buying the figures...I still buy the Novels for Star Wars and I buy the Clone Wars when the seasons come out but that ends my basic Star Wars collecting. |

i packed up all my ARAH ''collection'' in 87-88, with the plan to never get rid of it, and hopefully pass my happiest childhood memmories on to my children...yes this was my thought at 13-14 years old..
fast foward to 2007, still having my joes boxed at my mom and dads house, and having two sons...im walking through targets toy aisle and i look down and see the 25th joe 5pack, and going nuts! i had bought a few of the 05 series, couple joes, medi-viper, and also the R.O.C.C, testing my boys with these things before i hand over the classics... i never did give them my collection, but i have bought them EVERYTHING since the first 5 pack up to wave 2 of POC...

It actually started out with Macross anime toys and collectibles when Yamato started putting out their transformable toys. Then it moved into Gunbuster stuff. Then I started in on the latest Star Wars at the time. Finally, I came back to my first big toy interest as a kid, GI-Joe. When Wave 2 or 3 came out I took notice.

Phase One: Circa 1983
I had always had a fascination with military vehicles. As a kid, I drew up my own blueprints for existing military tanks, howitzer cannons, and (most importantly) jets. My parents found out that G.I. Joe vehicles came with their own set of blueprints. So on the Christmas of 1983, they purchased me a VAMP with the Whirlwind to tow behind. I became fascinated by G.I. Joe and began collecting everything I wanted. I would put the blueprints up on my wall. The file cards would go in a recipe box. And when I wasn't setting my Joes up for battle, they were set up for display an eight foot long bookshelf that I had in my room. My last G.I. Joe purchase was the armored Cobra Commander, Marine Dress Blues Gung-Ho, Crazylegs, Fast-Draw, and Psyche-Out in 1987. My last vehicle purchase was from the year prior with the Devilfish. As I got older, my interests shifted from Joes to girls and my G.I. Joe command got boxed up and put in storage. A couple years into my own military career, the storage unit that held all my Joes was broken into and my collection gone forever. Phase Two: 2007 Fast forward nearly two decades since my last major interest in G.I. Joe. My kids had got into Sigma 6 a few years back and the Valor vs. Venom line grabbed my interest for a moment. But the character designs of S6 didn't appeal to me nor did the VvsV figures. I had an idea to possibly write a story to be made into a movie of G.I. Joe. I figured that with the state of world affairs could really use some "Real American Heroes". I began on my story. I figured that my combat military experience and knowledge of G.I. Joe could come in handy for this type of story. So I began searching websites and reading the DDP comic books to get information on the characters that were going to be in my story. Phase Three: 2009 Paramount beats me to the punch and releases the Rise of Cobra movie. I had been hearing the buzz for a year prior. This sorta delayed my writing as I became discouraged. All the intel I had got about the movie was setting it up to be something that I didn't want to see. Although I was happy to see G.I. Joe on the big screen, it was far from the G.I. Joe that I remembered. I decide at this point to dive more into G.I. Joe. I surely couldn't let this movie dictate that this is what Joe is. So I do more research and do more writing. My goal: to start a line of novels based on G.I. Joe. Unlike Star Trek and Star Wars (both fan based franchises), I found that G.I. Joe lacks in the literary department. I hoped to change that. Final Phase: 2010 At the suggestion of somebody on another board, I create a logon to Hisstank.com. This is my first Joe related online community. I had been on other online forums before so I knew that these were a great resource. I had seen that there are many other ways to "play" with G.I. Joe toys. People were posting up dioramas, customs, and even restorations. I decided to get onboard with this. I noticed at my local Big Lots the 25th Anniversary figures. Since this was a throwback to my younger years. I quickly picked up a Scarlett and Sgt. Airborne. My goal, to make them a custom helicopter pilot team. I was never very interested in the RoC figures. I didn't like that they had the likenesses of the characters in the movie so I never bought them. Eventually these would be phased out for the new line, or Pursuit of Cobra. Upon my visit to the SDCC, I chatted with creative director John Warden from Hasbro and sat in the Renegades panel. I was excited of what they planned to do with G.I. Joe and was on board. I began the search for the new figures. Search upon search became fruitless. So when I came up on the new Duke and Beachhead at my local TRU, I bought one of each of the peg warmers. It was my first purchase at full retail price of G.I. Joe since 1987. I now am in search of Vintage, 25th Anniversary, and the new line for customizing and modification. For me, it's alot like model making. Except with military figures and toys. I usually don't change much on the toys themselves, mostly just repaints and kitbashes. My first custom was the one that I formulated from myself. Code Name: One-Stop. You can see him my picture folders.

When I heard the song "Can I play with Madness"
It opened up new possibilities past just collecting madness

right when i thought i got out, they pulled me back in. after a few years i stopped looking in the toy aisles, a herculean effort in itself, but one day i had time to kill and went to a nearby toys r us... i saw the snake eyes and storm shadow 25th 2 pack and it blew my head off. this was the first time i had seen the new articulation, and it was a love that made my grinch heart grow and remember that 'opening up a new toy' feeling.
