I am restoring an old Kenner AT-AT walker and snowspeeder ,how ever these toys have old stickers still stuck to them and some battery acid stains from the past thirty years .The problem is there is wiring inside these vehicles so i cannot soak them ,does anyone have any tips on how i can solve this problem ?I bought repro labels
so i don't want to keep the original stickers ,and besides they are crocked were not applied correctly . -thanks |

If you're looking for something fairly cheap and lying around the house; Purell hand sanitizer on the offending area and then scrub at it with a wet one hand/face wipe. This gets rid of the decal remains and the stickyness, without scratching the plastic. I'm a germaphobe and stumbled across this unexpected side effect. Not sure how many people have lots of hand sanitizer and wet ones just lying around, though...
Not really sure about the battery stains though. Worst case scenario you may need to just disassemble evrything, remove the electronics (Not that hard- I did this all the time when I was like 6) and soak everything, let it dry COMPLETELY and then reassemble. |

You could try dawn dish soap for the sticker situation or window tint remover! As far as the battery acid you could try coca cola on a towel or que tip and wipe the infected areas with one of them!

Goo Gone should take care of the sticker residue, just soak a paper towel corner in it and rub it on the spot.
I don't know about the battery acid. Maybe Goo Gone would work on it as well. |

Soaking won't hurt it, electrically speaking, if you allow it to dry out before you put charge back through the electrics.

Taking apart that AT-AT isn't that hard. I took mine apart when I was a child just to see how everything worked and it went back together just fine.

Try a paste of baking soda and water with an old toothbrush on the battery acid.

Goo Gone for the sticker residue and baking soda (a base) for the acid residue are your best and safest earliest options.

UPDATE ..
I just soaked my snowspeeder in water and peeled off the old stickers ,but there is a yellowish residue that won't come off ,i tried scrubbing it with a soft dish spongee but it is stuck there ,and i also used goo gone to soak with and that didn't seem to work either ? I'm assuming it's the glue from the stickers and after 30 years it's fused with the plastic ,if anyone has any tips send them my way . Thanks |
