I swear I am not trying to turn this into a debate, because I too believe it should be someones right to choose euthanasia if they wish, but for the sake of conversation this is the one argument I have heard against it. I have heard that in one of the Scandinavian countries euthanasia is legal. I'm not sure which one, I cant even say for sure that it is factual. The problem is they say that they have noticed a trend of younger family members pressuring otherwise healthy elderly family members into doing it as opposed to paying for their long term care. I know that is horrible and really dicked up, but with as greedy as people are I can see them worrying about their inheritance being spent at an old age home.
Again not trying to argue, just thought I would bring that up for the sake of conversation.

To the above. The viking countries of Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark have not approved the topic at hand. You sir have been hit with rumors largely due to the fact that the government hand in supporting it's elderly makes the USA look like...well what we are greedy little gluttons. Those countries have the highest standard of living in all of the world.
The Netherlands has the right to die and is the first country to have it legalize. However it's limited to only cases which are hopeless or which come with unbearable pain. They is a push to have it so that 70 year old people who are done with living and want to pass for whatever reason could also get the program but so far it's only in medical cases where by all account death is going to come regardless. Belgium has passed more liberal laws. It was passed in 2006 and a survey was done in 2010. They found that those going for this outlet were not older men but rather younger men who had unbearable pain due to cancer and other incurable diseases. Germany has a grey area here. Suicide isn't illegal in Germany so assisting in Suicide isn't illegal. You can provide poison and weapons to the person in question but you may not actually aid them. |

@atomsmasher You mentioned suicide isn't illegal in Germany, is it illegal in the US? What are they going to charge you with once your dead?

I may want to if I was suffering, but since I'm not now, I'd have to say no. As a believer in God, I think choices like that should be left to the individual and not regulated by the govt. |

my dad was in an accident where he was in a coma. they said there was no brain activity and he a had a living will so we did not have to make that choice. if any good came out of it he also was an organ donor so he helped other people

I'm more concerned about my right to kill than your right to die.

If your suicide attempt is successful they cant charge you with anything, but if you fail they can and will stick you in a loony bin for observation and evaluation. If you upset enough people in the course of your unsuccessful suicide attempt they can charge you with inducing panic, or if you use a firearm they can charge you with discharging a firearm in city limits or what ever the local regulation is.

I'll explain sorry for the delay I was at the hospital with my sister she just lost her appendix.
Mr. G sorry I haven't slept well last night was excited. I meant to say that assisting suicide isn't illegal where as in the USA assisting is illegal. If you provide a gun your guilty, In 47 states doctors can be found guilty unless more states ahve approved the right to die act. Sorry for the confusion due to my sleep deprived state. |
