Heh - a guy from Florida bagging on the decidedly West Coast Jim Rome? Shocking!
You have one guy who just wonders out loud at why these bitch-ass pro athletes get so much wiggle room from the public and media in general, and you complain. There's a real good reason he's got some pretty consistent guest athletes, and virtually all of them are relatively clean compared to some of the douchebags in sports...he tells it like it is, either way, and that polarizes the shit out of these players and coaches. Now, please - GIMME BACK MY SON! Mel, I don't have your son.... GIMMIE BACK MY SON!! Mel, ... why are you shouting ... I am right here... GIMMIE BACK MY SON!! I will gladly be part of the minority. I like Jim Rome. I like the idiot clones who call in trying to be funny but are morons. I like the fifteen second pauses of dead-air. I like the hilarious Micheal Jackson impression. I like Jay Mohr guest hosting. Or the Scalar brothers. He isn't everyone's cup of tea. That's fine. Give him a week. If you still don't like him, give him another week. Still not a fan? Try one more week. I've listened to local guys (upstate NY) and they are bad. I'ved listened to NYC guys (Francessa is ok, but was better with Russo and vice versa). ESPN Radio (NY) is bad, and ESPN National is mainly just the various anchors doing an hour show - Scott Van Pelt isn't that bad. I've listened to the Herd - which is absolute drivel. I've listened to the big Boston shows - good one day, bad the next, too much talking over one another. Dan Patrick was great, but then Dibble left and the show seemed to become dry and boring. I remember Kylie and Booms - hilarious stuff. My point is.. out of all of them Rome seems to be having.... gasp... FUN! PTI is great. Around the Horn? Eh. Mike and Mike? Completely inane. I say bring back Up Close with Roy Firestone. |

I listen to sports radio all day, every day. Jim Rome is the biggest douchebag in all of sports media. The flip side to Rome's gay ass is Colin Cowherd. In my opinion, he has the best radio show in the country.
Scott Van Pelt's show has also gotten really good. |

I travel all over the country and have listened to pretty much every sports talk station you can find. Even in SoCal Jim Rome is not the best sports talk show, in my opinion. Petros and Money are by far superior to him. You want to talk about having fun on the radio, those guys blow Rome out of the water with the energy they put out.
But country wide, it's not like there's that much variety to choose from. If you don't live in a big city like Chicago with the score and New York with their big one I can't remember at the moment, you're not going to get 24 hour programming that's original to your area, you might get just one or two shows (which probably will suck.). So most people in America are stuck with FSR, SNR or ESPN radio. |

I like to occassional listen to Scott Ferrel on Sirius as well. High energy, talks about ALL sports and doesn't just focus on a few or certain teams. Like anything else though, it can get to be a little much at times. |

Wow, that was awesome. I have never seen that. Jim Everett was cool. He did the right thing. Poor Jim Rome, not only did he could roughed up but he was sporting a man perm. I think JE should have just laughed at him. Rome having a man perm is punishment enough.

i'm really not a sports guy at all but I listen to rome for the precise reasons you are bitching about. In fact the stuff you were describing made me laugh. Fish alarm forever!
