Ok so i have a ps3 and a new hd dvr box. both use the hdmi cable. problem is i only have one slot on my tv.
i tried a splice but that didnt work. what other options are out there besides switching the cables in and out depending on what unit i want to use?

You tried to spice an HDMI cable? Wow, those things aren't cheap! Anyway, I'd check your cable box for an HDMI input. Some cable boxes have them. Then your signal is just routed through that. If not, go for the splitter.

You can use component cables for your cable box, since DirecTv is the only one out there with some channels that display 1080P. Honestly depending on what size HDTV you have, the human eye can't really detect the difference with 1080i and 1080p. If you plan on going with a full on surround sound system (in the future) you can get an AV Receiver that has multiple HDMI inputs and one HDMI output that goes to your HDTV and the receiver does the switching. You could probably do it with one of those Home Theater In A Box system but make sure you pick one that has multiple HDMI inputs.
Hope that helps. |

You can also get them online for around $4-$6 each. There's absolutely no need to waste money for HDMI cables at big box retail.

I love ebay. I got the splitter for a little under 7 shipped.
I picked up one of the conterter boxes. it says it works for up to 3 units. I have 2 so i should be good. I have a spare hdmi cable (you need one to connect the box to the tv, i picked up a 3 pack on ebay a while back for 12 shipped) so im good there. I have direct tv and got a hd dvr box ence the need for 2 hdmi slots on the tv. at the moment i have the audio cables on the ps3 but its not the same :( Anyhow thats for the advice on this
