Well Ive been working for a while, and I miss my Lightning. But the Ford Fever must end. So this weekend Im going down to MA to have a look at an 02 CLK55 AMG. Its decently priced, high miles, but for a properly maintained Merc this is nothing. This thing is an Autobahn rapist!!! I am VERY VERY VERY excited to have test drive, and hope she's solid and everything works out. Wish me luck! =)
EDIT: Here's the basic idea. Ive already got springs priced out. Then rims, new grille, HIDs. Probably next summer Ill look into Renntech headers, exaust, and tune. Their sh*t aint cheap! As it sits, the car should be good for 367hp and 376 ft/lbs in a roughly 3400lbs car. Low 13's in the 1/4. With the mods I mentioned I should see a 40-50 hp+tq increase at the wheels. I should break into mid 12s =) But this isnt an off the line car, its a top end monster. Its governed at 155mph, but a tune will break that limiter and the car has been reported to do 200mph no problem. In other words......its a bug smasher! Technically no. I had a Focus RS for a couple years, thats a full Euro spec turbo widebody Focus. Theyre not DOT legal in the states, so a shop out in CA basically bought a US spec ZX3, gutted it, and swapped the entire RS motor, turbo, drivetrain, suspension, body, etc into the car with a US VIN. They scored all the parts through some european hookups on class B breaks (an insurance clause overseas in which you must part the car out rather than repair it). Seriously illegal, seriously fast, seriously fun =) I had it shipped over here. Ive always been more interested in European Fords that the stateside stuff, but my folks have drove Mercs most of their life and I worked for a dealer for a while so Ive been a big fan of AMGs. I just got lucky and stumbled upon this gem so Ive got my fingers crossed!!!

Nice, if you can handle parts costs when/if trouble pops up...but yeah, at a stop lite everybody thinks you think they're peons, it's a natural high...

check with your local Benz dealer, a coworker owns a 55 AMG and somehow since it has the benz Kompressor supercharger he has to go to the dealer for oil changes. He has tried to take it to Jiify Lube, etc but they refuse to service it because they do no carry the correct oil or some such nonsense. Anyway, his oil service costs him hundreds of dollars. He replaced a headlight for a mere 450 bucks and within a year the same headlight went out again...$450 more. To top it all of he got his butt handed to him by a bone stock 2011 Mustang that yet another coworker owns (though to be fair he punishes pretty much everyone with that beast).
All said it is still an awesome car, but the maintenance is killing his joy of ownership everytime he turns around, something to think about. ETA - Street racing is for mental midgets, the buttwhooping in question was done at a 1/4 mile track...several times. Last edited by ekko; 07-12-2010 at 10:18 PM.. |

ETA - Street racing is for mental midgets, the buttwhooping in question was done at a 1/4 mile track...several times. What year and class AMG? I believe the S and E-Classes had a small Kompressor setup, and a later C-class sedan was s/c as well. I cant remember off the top of my head. Benz carries a special motor oil (and the s/c oil is a different grade as well) and you wouldnt want any off the shelf crap in there. The larger class sedans are heavy-ass pigs, thats why the CLK was considered to be the best of the old 5.4 AMG series. Im fully aware of the maintenance costs, and I worked several years at the local Merc dealer and they will treat me well =) 2011 Stangs are no joke. Friend of mine JUST picked one up and he's been beating up on all the STI/EVO fanboys. But they are definitely 1/4 cars and have the LSD to prove it. I dont believe the AMG had a decent diff that year. Not to mention Merc couldnt build a manual tranny to handle that kind of torque at the time (as good as their auto tranny is). But I bet that same Stang would get stomped from a 60 roll on the highway. Honestly my racing days are long over; it's like Cliff said earlier its that feeling that everyone around you knows theyre a peon and wont even bother. Thats what I got with my Lightning. I RARELY got bothered in it. I was just asked at stoplights to do burnouts by complete strangers =) =) =) Last edited by SVT_COBRA; 07-12-2010 at 11:17 PM.. |

I miss my mustang :\ Mind it was an 85 5.0 and I had it in 1996, but it was still a beast with some tuning done to it. I went from that to an 97 Porsche 944TT that was stolen from me in New Haven back in 2001. I now have a slightly modified Jetta running about 310 to the rear wheels. I drive my son around in it, so I have to keep it decent
