I finaly got my NY state security guard's license in the mail last week! It only took about five weeks! From what I hear, thats not too bad.
I know there will be tons of rent a cop jokes... Thats fine, whatever... There seems to bee so many security guard jobs listed in the newspapers where I live. I just finished working for the US Census part time, so I could really use a better job... So I'm hoping to break into that field. I have already applied to the TSA, and some other security based professions. No responses yet, but I'm ever hopefull. I'm hoping for something at one of the local hospitals, or colleges... If I could land a Federal job that would be AWESOME! Any way just wanted to share. |

So... remember, your job is to wear a uniform... and look intimidating while hitting on underage women at the mall.
On a serious note, careful, don't work somewhere that has a past history of rent a cops being shot. |

I remember when I got my ny state security licence. Watch out for certain places, they'll act as if they are interviewing you for a job, only to say you need such and such class or classes before they can send you to a location. They'll say in ny state you'll need anti terrorist class and fire guard class(which has nothing to do with being a security guard in the first place)and all kinds of crap classes that'll cost you hundreds of dollars. After that they'll send you to security companies(where you couldve just went to yourself in the first place) where you still have to apply and interview for a position, and sometime take that companies classes. Working security in ny,you have to look out for a lot of scammers.

I was a security gaurd for a while, worked corperate security, sweet job, all I did was sit arround waving cars through at the gate for the first 2 hours, Took a tour of the west side for two, Went back to the gate after lunch and did another office tour on the east side. Hell, it was actualy prety relaxing, because I did 2nd shift, so there wassent even anyone there.
Oh and great excercise too! Each route was about 3.5 miles per, just wear comfy shoes! Oh and great pay too! Every weekend I was rolling in Joes! |
