HissTank Members,
I wanted to share this post here, on the board, because I feel enough is enough. ----- There are some (not all, but some), who don't treat this obession of ours as a hobby. Some of you feel the need to belittle others. Some of you feel a sense of entitlement. Some of you feel the need to question others Selling/buying practices. When is enough enough? Do "you" know how "you" are viewed on other boards? Not that it matters, because people are going to have opinions regardless, but a few of you do nothing to help the cause. It's a sad day though when even the most laid back people say "the drama on the Tank is too much for me to swallow". I think you're all a bunch of great guys. As such, here are a few thoughts that I think would benefit all involved: #1 Toys are toys. They are not essential to every day life. If someone 2,000 miles away found something that you didn't, rather than call them a "horder" or "scalper", why not be happy that a fellow board member found something? Who knows, maybe you'll get lucky and find them too. #2 People can charge what they want for items that they sell. The best way to show people you don't appreciate their pricing is to avoid their sale. Chiming in with "Oh no! How dare you charge more than retail on something I don't yet own!?!"...really, it doesn't help anyone. No one is going say "well, so and so seems angry, let me drop my price". It just won't happen. Why? Because supply/demand has been around longer than any of us. It will be around longer after all of us. #3 If you don't like the way a staff member is doing something (for instance, me posting this thread), don't feel like you're going to be an unsung hero by being disrespectful on the forums. You can express your point of view without letting "nerd anger" get the best of you. This goes for everyone, myself included. #4 With all due respect, does the fact that we collect something intended for children mean we have to act like children as well? People do so much complaining, but never seem to offer a resolution to their issue...just keep piling poop on poop. #5 I don't want to hear that "whining is just part of the internet". No, it's not. I'm a member of many different boards and feel that the only reason the "anger" is so rampant here is because we have so many members. A few of you may or may not know it, but you're ruining the fun for all of those around you. I hope that starting today, moving forward, we can all keep our rants in check and maybe contribute rather than cause conflict. Perhaps we can have discussions that express all points of views rather than flamefests that get locked down. This thread can go on and on...but that wasn't it's intent. My friends, it's time to either piss or get off of the pot. If a hobby gives you so much displeasure, then it's not a hobby. Sure, it gets frustrating...but don't let it get the best of you. At the end of the day, they're only toys. If anyone feels differently, please, PM me or post here. I want to know how you guys feel on this topic. If you choose to repsond here...please be adult about it. If you feel the need to go Ape s**t, please PM me instead. Thanks for reading. - Erick aka C.I.A.D. |

Bravo Erick. I could not have said it better. I collect the new G.I. Joe figures for my little boy. He loves them and it brings back wonderful memories of my childhood. My main hobby is model railroading and could not imagine obsessing about it to the point where I belittle the railroader that has a bigger better model railroad than I do. When I see a bigger, better layout I congratulate him and aspire nothing more than be content with what I have and be happy for what others have. I collected star wars figures or so long that I do feel like it was becoming more of a chore than a hobby. I enjoy seeing other members find things just to let me know that I need to be on the look out for something for my boy. The only thing I am obsessed with is being a good dad and putting a smile on my sons face. I that means finding that new gi joe figure or just playing with him with the toys he has it is a win win situation. With that said off I gowith my boy to try to find the latest wave of joes and even if we dont find them then off to Burger King for lunch. What could be better than that?
