I was waiting for somthing like this to pop up. As an owner of my own site with well over 800 members. It is hard to regulate the law sometimes.. members often think that being and Admin. or Mod. is great, but it's not as glorious at they see. We have to put up with the ranting and raving of members who don't get their way, kill threads that start off really good but ultimately die do to someone flaring up and even when given warnings they continue.
I expressed my feelings of an occurance here that seemed to be getting out of hand. (thus why I was waiting for a thread like this to show up or see the other thread killed.) So to you sir, I applaud your effort to keep this forum a geek paradise with pretty pictures and great info on new stuff. Seriously. Thank you for saying things that I wanted to, but not having the place of power to say it and people listen. And what is this "Log Off" you are refering to? LOL

AFA is a scam, and only morons fall for it. What kind of idiot buys graded figures? I'm paraphrasing, of course, but that wouldn't be far from actual quotes. I realize we all want to protect the investment we have in our hobby (and I don't mean the financial investment, but the mental investment), but that's not constructive criticism or legitimate commentary. That's deliberate insult and intentional malice. Just because someone does something differently than you or I, that doesn't mean they're doing it incorrectly. And just because you or I have been doing things our own ways for five, ten, or twenty years, that doesn't mean we have it right, either. That's what I mean by a mental investment. Comments like that are as much about the author reassuring him/herself as they are about convincing readers. This is a hobby, and each individual should approach it in a way that makes it fun for him/her. No one method is better or worse than another, and if there really is any such thing as "community" among collectors, then everyone should be respectful of that. |

Competitiveness is human nature. As is jealousy. Unfortunate, but true. I mainly use this forum to obtain information, and to check out some of you guys' sweet customs. I do, from time to time, get roped into "gripe" threads about the lack of availability, or such. Sometimes I comment, sometimes I restrain myself. Right now, I can't say much, because I don't have the money to make any purchases anyway. Maybe there should be a forum for all the whiners and moaners to get everything off of their backs, and keep it out of the rest of the site? Just a suggestion.
Everyone needs somebody to complain to - I know my girlfriend could care less about what goes on in my world of Joe. I feel she's silently relieved when we go to the store and the shelves are devoid of GI Joe swag. However, point well taken. |

But then the people who like to bait/heckle/point out the logical inconsistencies of the whining (myself included, sometimes) would go there to bark at the whiners, and the whiners would flame back and etc etc etc. It's best to just have a no whining/no hating policy.

And I would like to dispel the myth that online insults "don't hurt". They do - Sometimes in quite profound ways. Too many people say that because they 'can take it' (although the reverse is usually true), everyone else should too. Not the sort of attitude I want to come up against while I'm chatting about toys.
