Post #600 is about LBJ!! ARGH!
Personally, I think LeBron stays in Cleveland. If he goes to NY or Brooklyn (NJ) he won't be winning anything, anytime soon. I don't know if it works cap-wise with him going to Miami, but I can't see Bosh-LBJ-Wade all being able to share a ball. It's a different situation from Pierce-KG-Allen, in that all were on the back 9 of their careers and wanted (and were completely dedicated) to win the championship. So that leaves Chi-town and Cleveland. I can't see him heading to Chi-town, as good as that team might be with Rose, Noah & co. To be in MJ's shadow only leaves the option of failure. Imagine, King James goes and can't win there .. how is he remembered? That's why I think he stays right where he is. He gets his max deal, they promise to keep tooling and spending $$ on players so that he can bring home a championship to Cleveland. Plus, imagine the utter disgust Cleveland would have towards him if he should leave. No one wants to be hated that much in their home town. What I hate is the notion that you need to have an hour long press conference to announce where you are going? Please. |

if by soon you mean only this season, you are right. but the Knicks have cap flexibility for another max contract next year if they let Curry's come off the books at the end of the season, or can trade it away as an expiring contract this season. but the fact is if he goes to the Knicks, he already has one top tier player in Amare and another to be named later either at the trade deadline or next year. with two top tier teammates, he will be winning with the Knicks soon enough. with the Knicks, he will have a better team next year than he will have in Chicago or Cleveland for the next decade.

The Wade and Bosh combo is a good one, but still leaves the Heat a long way from being a title contender. They only have 2 players under contract on their whole roster before getting Wade and Bosh (if that does happen).
However, having those two guys on the team will help allure some players via free-agency, trades and using the mid-level exemption. Quote:
The issue is that only Michael Beasley and Mario Chalmers are under contract. It's not like they can go out and get a Mike Miller, David Lee, and fill out the roster with unproven guys, because James isn't going there. One player can certainly turn a team aroud in the NBA, but it take a whole team effort and some amount of depth. They'd literally be a Wade or Bosh injury from the lottery if they can't get James. And they're still not as good as the Magic or Celtics w/Ray Allen. People act like Bosh is the second coming of KG. He's a nice player, but so was Shareef Abdur-Rahim when he had no help in Vancouver.

All speculation....its a joke I think most of this is hyped up way to much this summer. If I were a player I would go to the team that showed some future not spur of the moment....that's the problem with cleveland. They want players right now to win right now. Jamison wasn't the addition they needed last year nor was shaq 2. ( he slows the game down anyways and needs to retire. ) Lebrons staying in cleveland and he's going to struggle for awhile til they find the right supporting players......age does matter.

The team this year will be Amar'e and LBJ and not a whole lot else. There is no real point guard and I don't know why there are rumors of SA possibly sending Tony Parker to the Knicks because it makes no sense. As a NY'er (but a Celts fan), I've seen how bad these guys are on a nightly basis. They don't play defense, and I honestly don't think D'Antoni is going to learn anytime soon. Plus, it's not like Amar'e is the definition of health. Don't get me wrong, I don't wish him ill ... but dude has had microfracture surgery on his knee (IIRC) and a pretty bad eye-injury. Plus his effort has been questioned in the past. Then there is the rest of the East. The Celts. The Magic. The Hawks. The Bucks. The Bulls. Would the Knicks be better than any of those teams? Good enough to make it past two of them in the playoffs? Say by some twist of fate they do make it to the Finals. Could they possibly beat the Lakers? On top of that, there is the looming lockout, which I think is not going to go away. Who knows what effect that will have on the NBA landscape. I am sure Anthony would love to come back to NY and guide them to a championship, but I don't think his departure from Denver next year is written in stone. |

I disagree for a couple of reasons.

the only reason to leave Denver and pass on an extra $30 million, where he already has a team better than Chicago, is for an emotional reason, and only New York fits that bill. what reason does he have to leave Denver for Chicago when Denver can pay him more and the team is better? |

Cleveland has nobody worth a darn to trade to New Orleans for Chris Paul and even if that trade was pulled off, it doesn't make the Cavaliers any better.

I figured Wade would resign with Miami and be joined by Bosh. Lebron is not going there. It's either Cleveland or NY. I'm not going to go into my rant about why he is not going to Chicago but I'll sum it up in two words: Michael Jordan.
I agree with gunslingercbr on the points he makes about the Knicks and their ability to get Lebron and another max player next year in perhaps Carmelo. They got some decent young players in Danillo Galinari who is becoming a sharpshooter and Wilson Chandler who is the intangibles type of player. They could develop nicely next to Lebron and Amare. Add in another max player next year and you got a nice squad. I'll admit there is no point guard but if Lebron is on your team, he'll be handling the ball as much as possible. I just can't wait for this circus to be over. When I heard Lebron was going to make his announcement on an ESPN special on Thurs. night, it annoyed me. At least the proceeds from the special go to charity but notwithstanding the fact that he is arguably the best basketball player at this time, the guy's ego is through the roof. Which is why going to NY makes even more sense. He would rule NYC. |
