Incidentally, in the 3.5 years I was aboard the USS Tarawa, we only had one Man Overboard that I can remember. That's pretty good, given how much of our equipment (particularly weapons systems) dangled right over the side...not to mention that we had a VERY active flight deck servicing CH46s and 53s, Harriers, Cobras, and Hueys.

what's the point? the airforce changed ours a year or so ago and the only good thing that came out of it was wash and wear. the only good difference with the navy is black suede boots(AF went green and as a maintainer it sucks for grease) the navy dungarees were great cause they were cheap, if the navy camo is like the ABU then, the only reason for changing is, the same as ours, cause everybody else did.
At lest the Air Force didn't get the Death Star uniform for a service dress, that was just bad. |

I like the old dress code better. I really don't see the pt in having camo on a ship.

Yup. Rangers were mad when the regular Army took the black berets. Now Rangers have tan. I was Airborne so I earned my maroon beret and it still makes me mad to see someone that gets attached to an Airborne unit wearing one(just for uniformity purposes) and they aren't even Airborne qualified. Same thing happens with ppl attached to Ranger and SF units. They get to wear the tan and green berets without earning them. I hate that!
Personally, I still have my boonie hat that I was issued when I was in the Gulf and that's still my favorite headgear. Never understood why they never authorized them in Woodland.

I think it should be mandatory that all Navy personnel look and dress exactly like Shipwreck, including the women. With mustaches.
I actually like those white sailor outfits those guys wear though....they're kinda sexy. And during Fleet Week here in NY, women get horned up around them, so it works out well for everybody. Fleet week is always a fun thing, when you're able to enjoy it.

Any one who has had to endure a man over board drill for x hours realises that sailors uniforms should prob be a bright color like oh say orange or lime green. as for if they get paint on there coveralls there coveralls, all the services have many uniforms the marines and army have several classes of dress uniforms i think the prob with the navy was theres not a set uniform of the day for the navy as a whole, the marines for example are in desert cammies for half the year and greens the other half, the army tends to wear the acu all year, unless like the marines its directed by the command, so the navy could have set some policy like dungerees for all shore duty sailors, and coveralls/ khakis for all shipboard sailors except while manning the rails etc. IMHO it was just an example of goverment waste whats was the point when you had other options that wouldnt cost the government or sailors money
The Navy did have a Uniform of the Day as posted by the command on the general Plan-of-the-Day (I hope I don't need to explain what this is to you). The working coverall, which was like a jumpsuit was never an official uniform. It was only designated on ships and where "dirty work" would be performed. On some commands, sailors were actually required to wear their working uniform under the coveralls. Naturally, many resisted this and it became common for sailors to simply throw on the more "battle efficient" jumpsuits. Then we had our dungaree working uniform which served very much like the BDUs do for Marines. These were authorized work uniforms in which sailors were allowed to move around base or enroute to or from the command. On top of that we had service whites and blues which served much like the "Charlie" uniform of the Marines. This uniform was to be worn when doing "non-dirty" work. For people that worked in offices or in an administrative or supportive capacity, this was the uniform of the day. Then there was the dress uniforms (or "cracker-jacks") which are pretty much self explanatory... I think the new uniforms finally bring some true uniformity to the branches. In contrary to what you were stating, only having three styles of uniforms to worry about leaves more money in the sailor's pockets. As a sailor who worked with the Marines, I had to adhere to the uniform code of the USMC. Which meant I spent most of my time in woodland or desert BDUs or in "Charlies" much like what the new uniforms are now. In my opinion, it's a good thing and brings true uniformity to the branches.

Ya know. I just found about this not too long ago. WTF, is up with that anyway? Even as someone who never wore a beret I could see how it would rub the Airborne, Rangers, and SF soldiers the wrong way. It's still weird to see it. I was watching the news and there was a big parade formation, and I was like "HOLY F*%K, that is alot of Rangers!" Then it dawned on me. I think it's BS, tbh.
Personally, I still have my boonie hat that I was issued when I was in the Gulf and that's still my favorite headgear. Never understood why they never authorized them in Woodland. EDIT: I think these new uniforms may help with recruiting. The crackerjacks always make me think Popeye or the Village People. I get the same feeling seeing RAN guys in the white shorts.

It is all about marketing to get 18 year olds to join.
How does this make uniformity to the branches? They all used to have the same style BDUs. Now they all have their own designer digital camos obviously the Army and Marines being much more functional |
