I'll probably get laughed off the board, but I'm a huge Buffy fan and think the "Stake Your Destiny" novels are awesome! They're basically like "Choose Your Own Adventure" novels featuring Buffy and set during the Sunnydale High-era. The novel really captures the tone of dialogue used in the show. Not exactly Anne Rice, but it's a really fun read.

I've read most of the Anne Rice novels. Didn't care for Body Thief, but loved Memnoch. One of my favorite books and the only Rice hardcover I own.
I'm no Vampire expert, but I loved Bram Stoker's Dracula novel. It's amazing how much of a modern action-adventure story it is. I can't believe no one's ever adapted it completely. I also really liked Salem's Lot. Not so much my first reading as a teen, but as an adult it's an excellent book. I would recommend to anyone who enjoyed it to also look into the last three Dark Tower books where the cursed priest Father Callahan features prominently.

The original Bram Stoker's Dracula is a TERRIFYING book. It really psychologically f*cks with you. Or at least it did me. I slept with the lights on. Seriously. Salem's Lot was good, too.

I'll admit it, I have a soft place in my heart for the total bad assery that is Anita Blake. The Vamps in her story are fairly ridicoulus most of the time... but when aren't they.
But as far as a Vampire Hunter that never dies (or says no) Anita Blake is the person for the job. |

Dracula.
The way it was presented, not as a typical narrative, but a collection of diary entries, newspaper articles, and personal journals assembled from a large number of different sources would have made people of the time unable to sleep for weeks. Presenting the fantastic as real at its best. Carmilla, the short story that started it all, deserves mention as well. |

The Strain was good, looking forward to the next.
Has anyone read "Passage"? Is it any good? Its supposed to be about genetic engineering creating vampires out of criminals and they escape. Has anyone read "Abraham Lincoln Vampire hunter? I read a book a few years ago about a woman going back to the town she grew up in (europe somewhere) and she starts remembering about vampires and the town was keeping them locked up under a slaughter house. a few characters ended up meeting there and were reborn heroes from the past. I don't remember the name of the book and I think there was a second. does this jog anyones memory? |

Lost Souls by Poppy Z. Brite
Ann Rice - Interview With The Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, Queen of The Damned, Pandora, and Vittorio The Vampire. All good reads in my opinion. I also read the first Sookie Stackhouse Novel. Dead until Dark, which I enjoyed. One more thing, I too am a Buffy fan. I never watched the show back when it originally aired. But I recently picked up the first three seasons and I love the show. I may check out those novels. |
