Al Williamson, one of the greatest comic artists ever has died. His work on Star Wars alone was a huge part of my childhood and inspiration for me as an artist. His work on Flash Gordon is legendary. This is very sad news indeed.
This is a video from years ago at a local comic shop's convention. |

I don't know who he was, but I remember reading all those great comics with his art as a kid. RIP Al, your work was truly magnificent and an enjoyment to look at.

Oh, man. What terrible news.
One of the single finest illustrators of all-time. He had an incredible personal journey and his history as an artist is the stuff of legends. I was lucky enough to own some of his original art and unlucky enough to have to part with it years later. Al Williamson was an artist's artist. |

sad new. I just picked up his 'Flash Gordon- A life long vision of the Heroic' a few weeks ago. Great great stuff that has left a lasting impression on many artists.
