I just heard on my local news channel that Ken Griffey Jr. is retiring effective immediately. This is kind of sad. He's always been one of my favorite players. I know that he's been plagued by injury throughout his career, but I still think he has a good chance at the hall. Anyway, I guess he's been playing over 20 years now, so it was probably about time to hang it up anyway.

yeah i read that earlier today. he had a tremendous career. too bad he never won a ring. he deserved to be on a championship squad. never once implicated in any PED scandal... nicest guy on the planet... hit bombs and stole them from others out in center.
truly one of the greatest to ever play the game. i will never forget when i got his Upper Deck rookie card as a kid. now, 22 years later, he's hanging em up. thanks for the memories, Junior! that said... Go Yankees!!! |

Well as a Yankee fan...I was very happy when he went to the Reds
Happy enough that I actually bought and own a Reds Griffey Jr. jersey...though his time there was nothing but injury after injury. A class act among professional athletes, one hell of a player and def "that player" that young bucks could still look up too. No scandal, no complaining, no BS--just pure heart and pure baseball. We have been comming to this for a little while now, and as sad as it is...it's "right". Thanks Jr. for the memories, even though you made so many of them against the Yanks...you will have a place in the HOF for sure. |

He's the man. Great career (not as great statistically, perhaps, as we had all hoped in 1989) and a class act.
Thanks for the great memories Kid. |

Had Griffey not have been injured so much throughout his career, I think there would have been a real chance he would have been the all time home run leader.
