Reasons like this,i carry a blade with me.I have to have 1 at work,i feel naked without it now.You have (atleast here) every right to defend yourself if you life is threatened(which it was).He might of kicked my ass,but he would think twice before the next time he decided to go crazy.
If he would've been alone,it might not of happened.Everybody is a badass when you got someone out numbered. |

Now that I'm older I don't say anything to anyone unless they are directly threatening my wife and kids or my life. As you found out it's not worth it. I've found most people who are acting stupid are stupid or are jerks and will not stop no matter how polite you are about it.
if I was ever in a situation where I had no alternative, I'm going right at the closest one with my thumbs in his eyes. game over. |

WOW. I'm totally blown away by the responses in here. When I made the post, I was just making a rant, and had no idea of the amount of support I'd get. You guys are awesome.
To cover a few points, after he'd attacked me, I overheard him and the guys he was with talking about following me off the train and getting me when I got off the station. I hurried off the train and had as I heard them following behind me and as I got off the platform, I saw Dad in his car there waiting to give me a lift. The problem was that the rear numberplate was sticking out like a sore thumb, and even though things like number plates are not on the public record, you never know how people can track things back, and if they happened to catch up with mum or dad (mum was 63 at the time and dad was 68) I didn't want to think about how much worse they might fare. So I headed away from the car. Dad called out but I signaled him to not say anything. Before I could figure out my next move, they'd caught up with me. The guy threw me to the ground after getting a few punches in. I tried overpowering him just to subdue him (I had no interest in hurting the guy), but it was like the guy was on ice. Jaimanstone, there are and I'm currently in the process of working with them. Tyroc, I've got a VCT claim in process but the problem with VCT is that they only cover unto a maximum of $10k for medical expenses and you have to wait 12-18 months for the money to come through, and they only reimburse for medical expenses (although I MAY be able to get an advance although apparently that's rare. My problem on that front is that the guy did about $14k worth of dental damage. So hopefully the actual damage compensation will be enough to cover the offset while leaving me a few grand to rebuild my life with. As far as dealing with the psychological scars goes, I'm seeing my chiropractor who doubles as a kinesiologist and that's really helped in improving things, although I'm realistic enough to know that it's going to take time to get over. That said, it's been a great excuse for retail therapy with action figures heh. |

I hope it all works out for you and he gets what he deserves.
Best thing to come out of this is that you lived, and my best wishes on a full and speedy recovery.

Oh I agree you do prowl, but the problem I had is that this guy should have been jail a long time ago. I say this because after the hearing, his mother and grandmother came up to me (when his mum grabbed me by the arm initially, I honestly wasn't sure what to expect).
When she did, she claimed that she knew exactly what he'd been like when he's drunk and had been trying to get him help for ages. I honestly don't get how he hadn't been stopped before this, considering that the police are convinced that the next time he attacks someone he'll more than likely beat them to death, so yeah, real freak event. |

OTOH, in the states he would have just sued you for biting his thumb, and probably would have won that case >.>
Feels bad, man. Hope everything works out for you. |

Except that the fact that he'd grabbed my face and was violently jolting it, he was already guilty of assault and I would have gotten off on self defence. Mum actually noticed bruises on my neck from where he'd grabbed me the night I was in hospital and there was a witness to that attack.

Oh, no doubt he should have been locked up ages before.
