Ok so I am sitting here looking at customs and working on some of my own when I look up and notice the drywall on my ceiling is freaking bulging wet in a little area (bought the size of your fist mind you) and then in a strait line down from it a little ways...I am like of that’s just fabulous...so I go up into the attic to see what its coming from.
I am in Texas and it is humid as hell here these days so I figure its may be the ac just sweating its self or something. I have been noticing the outside drain pipe dripping water more recently but have not been overly flowing like a faucet or anything but the roof has been noticeably wet under that drain outlet, may have been an early clue who knows. Well the drain pan is totally dry but there is a large insulated silver box on one end that connects to a massive long tube that goes over to where the intake vent/filter in my upstairs area connects to it (assuming its the intake side of the ac where this water is condensing at, outflow side appears dry not leaking) and the whole bottom of that thing (over hangs the condensate pan by like 3 feet or so) is wet and water drips out of it when I touch it from underneath. Well I shut the system off and used a small tiny wire to put a hole though the sheet rock to let it drip out so it would stop collecting and potentially getting worse up there and it seems the water has stopped dripping down and the hole seems to be drying. I also by hand dried up as much water under that area in the attic I described with a towel. But the question is why would water be collecting in an area away from the drip pan like that? It does not appear to be iced or and the top is dry and has dust on it directly opposite the wet dripping bottom side. I am not sure if they just did not put the drip pan under it right or if there is some block causing but I have never in the 6 years in this house seen it do this. It's just late and I don't really have anyone else to ask this time of night. This is going to be a long hot night without any ac arrghh... Any thoughts or input would be appreciated guys! Thanks, |
