I use it for communication. I don't play any of the games. I don't use any of the apps (to avoid viruses). And I don't divulge any information that I don't want known.
I think that much of this is getting way overblown. |

I've never had an issue with facebook. Their privacy matters have never presented a problem with me, and everything is set to only friends being able to view anything. Wasn't that difficult to click on privacy settings and select friends only.
Although I have to admit, I liked facebook a lot better when it was only for participating colleges and universities.

But the thing is, many people just don't care about their online privacy, or they don't know enough about the potential problems that can arise from people and corporate entities having so much access to what used to be privately held information to care. And there are the people who do know the issues involved but value the ability to socialize online over their privacy. But for me, posting on message boards like this one is the kind of online socializing I'm comfortable with. "Social networking" via Facebook or MySpace or Friendster or whatever just doesn't do anything for me. Last edited by zuludelta; 05-19-2010 at 02:21 PM.. |

The distressing thing about Facebook's ubiquity is some business and company execs encourage employees to sign up on Facebook (and by "encourage" I mean "make employees 'friend' the company's Facebook account to help 'grow' the company's online presence).

i don't have a Facebook... but i have plenty of real books in my home library.
met my GF (now future wife) on Myspace four years ago, ironically. totally random. then we both committed 'Myspace suicide' together and deleted our accounts. very Romeo & Juliet. that's how we roll. |

I deleted my original facebook acct after an ex-girlfriend sent me a friend request and my wife got ticked... wasn't worth it I activated one when I got my DROID but can't remember the user-name, password, or e-mail acct it was activated with... so I don't miss it much.... kids today seem to love it though (as does my wife)More power to 'em.

I don't use Facebook. Never felt the need to reconnect with chumps. I like my privacy. I dislike the need by individuals to be the total center of attention all the time. Blame reality tv. Everyone wants to be a star.
There was a case in canada, where a woman was on disability leave for depression. Her doctor told her to get some fun and excitment. So she and friends went to the tropics. Pics were posted on facebook with privacy settings. Her boss got wind of her trip with pics of her smiling and all. Her disability payments were cancelled since she's well enough to go on a trip and have a great time. The case is going to court. |
