well for the mushy brakes i would check the brake fluid resvior and see if it is low on fluid then check for a leak in the brake system and or pull the rear wheels and brake drums you may have a wheel cylinder leaking. and for the steering take the belt off and spin the pulleys that you can and see if you feel a rough place you have a bad bearing if those are good check the belt for cracks if not there then you may have a bad power steering pump
