So check this out--my band "manager"-guy who runs the studio that we rehearse at said he could get our CD to Monte Conner over at Roadrunner records. I was very skeptical--and he kept saying "I don't wanna send the cd, until you guys replace the drummer"
I said--"send it, I don't think we'll get signed, but I would love his professional opinion, from what I hear he's a cool guy". So he sent it like 2 months ago. This is the email that was sent to my manager from Monte himself, then forwarded to my guitarist---it's not the best news, but for me to be compared to David Vincent of Morbid Angel--one of my my influences was just incredible--this is the email that I got this morning, copied and pasted. Email:********************** Kenny sent me an email regarding Monte's response. Greg... I think you should be very happy with what Monte had to say: Monte: Locked are really solid with awesome production to boot. It’s very old school death metal with a singer who enunciates clearly for a DM singer like David Vincent used to do. That’s a plus. But like with any other new band playing old school metal these days, they will have a hard time connecting with the new kids of today. So the sales prognosis is small. BTW, no great loss on the drummer – he was nothing special. Kenny: We will talk about it... the operative thing he said here was that sales prognosis is small... for Roadrunner... so be it... Doesnt mean we cant push the band and shop around. Peace, K. |

Freakin sweet sir. I can see where he's coming from as all the kids are into deathcore/screamo now a days. There is still a diehard legion of fans of old school death metal. I promise if you release a cd I'll actually pay for it
Also, it's always cool to get validation from somewhere. I expect a free t-shirt and lurid tales of tour van debauchery when it comes!

I knew, without a doubt we would hear something along those lines--our music isn't that crazy screamo/"metal core" stuff--I NEED RHYTHM!!!---Either way, I thought it could have gone alot worse--we're still having fun and that's what its about right now. |

Congratulations!
I am not aware of how the music industry works or signs new talent, but it sounds like you got another invitation to try & wow the label executives at a later time. Did they give you any direction as to what the current market wants to hear? |

Thanks man--well, if he's talking about selling it to kids--then it means what the kids here are listining to. Which is more like metal or "death core". It comes down to songs with no song structure--undecipherable vocals and being completely over produced. Sound like I dig it? lol.

I won't say I "hate" that--because there are some cool parts, here and there.
But thats my problem with alot of that stuff--every piece of music seems like a part of a song...I dunno, I grew up with Maiden then moved to Morbid Angel...I like songs with a more traditional structure. Everyone into metal I know--especially if they're playing an instrument is in a pissing contest to see who can fit the most notes inside of 2 seconds--everything is tuned to C with 7 string guitars and it's just erratic. I'd rather be able to stomp my foot to something--maybe its me but I seriously can't figure out these time signatures. |

That's why I will forever hate the person who coined the term/genre "mathcore" WTF? I enjoy complex song structure (Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner anyone?) but I agree, who needs to have 2,000 notes and 8 signature changes in the first 2 minutes of an 11 minute song. At least old school Death Metal (Death, Obituary, Entombed, etc) they had an underlying structure that you could follow along to.
But, I will have to admit, I have my metal/deathcore days. Today is one of them, right now my Ipod is shuffling from Whitechapel to Carnifex. Cookie monster breakdowns FTW!
