Greetings,
I'm a single Dad with 2 adorable children, each with their own Mom. (The kids live with me, see the Mom I was married to on the weekends) So I've got to get my Mom something for Mother's day, but my question is this: Do I have to get the Ex Wife something for Mother's Day? And more importantly this: Do I need to get my girlfriend something for Mother's Day? (After all, she is nice enough to date a guy with 2 kids by 2 separate women.) Time is of the essence, Mother's Day is this Sunday! |

No. Just help your kids make something for them and spend the money on your own Mother. If you were still married to them, then it might be a different story.

When I was a kid growing up, my dad would take me shopping for mother's day (if I didn't make something). And my mom would take me shopping for father's day.
No, you don't need to get the girlfriend anything. But then I don't know the relationship between her and the kids. If it's close, they may want to make her something. But yes, if the kids don't make something, you should help them out.

Even though I can't stand my ex-wife I still usually have my son either get her a little something or make her something.
I mean afterall it's Mother's Day not "Love thy ex-wife day" lol

I never get anyone anything for mother's day, father's day, grandparent's day, valentine's day, sweetest day, or any of those other Hallmark holidays. If you follow that, it would clear up a lot of confusion on the mother's day, just axe it all.

Get something from the kids for the mothers, and that is it. They can choose it, you can help make it, whatever. Make sure it doesn't scream "CLASSIFIED CHOSE THIS" all over it.

I have a step-mother, and a real mother. I buy my mom something for Mother's Day and my step-mother has four children of her own, they can get her something. I just don't know if it's protocol to at least call my step-mother on mothers day?

if you are still on good terms with your ex and appreciate the job she does with your children, then certainly, getting her a card is a great gesture -- she's their mother and you are thanking her for it.
your girlfriend, on the other hand, even if she is tremendous with your children, is not their mother, even if she sometimes performs a similar role, and wouldn't be right to get her a mother's day card. at some point if your children feel that strongly about her that they feel she is just as much a mother to them as their own mother and want to thank her as such, they are free to do so, but I don't think you can claim that for them. |
