Greetings,
I'm a single Dad with 2 adorable children, each with their own Mom. (The kids live with me, see the Mom I was married to on the weekends) So I've got to get my Mom something for Mother's day, but my question is this: Do I have to get the Ex Wife something for Mother's Day? And more importantly this: Do I need to get my girlfriend something for Mother's Day? (After all, she is nice enough to date a guy with 2 kids by 2 separate women.) Time is of the essence, Mother's Day is this Sunday! The girlfriend. If you have been dating her for awhile, it would earn you points. Safe bet would be Exwife - nothing. Girlfriend - jewelry, or romantic dinner alone if your children are with their respective mothers.

and as for what I mentioned about anything with the girlfriend, calling it "mothers day" gift might be a step to far, but blah blah blah thanking her for being so good with the kids. but theorettically it all really depends on how long youve been together

For the step-mother thing it depends on:
1 - when your father remarried, where you a kid or an adult? How much influence did she have in your life? 2 - how close you are with her My step-mother and dad have been married for 25+ years. She was involved for a good chunk of my development. So I, at the very least, call her or get a card or a gift.

I took my girls to a craft store and let them pick a gift each.
No reason for me to get her ( the ex ) anything, Gotta get my mom a great gift for buying me all those Joes back on the 80's ! Plus my mom is great !!

I would suggest asking each and every one of your multiple personalities and then combining all the responses into the perfect answer. If that fails then I say trust your instincts.

I hate this holiday. Months ago we found a five dollar trinket which looked like my mother, so my wife picked it up. It is a sweet thoughtful gift the way it should be.
My mother-in-law has dictated what my wife must buy her this year, so we weren't really shopping but following orders. Joy. That's not thoughtful or personal. We're just following orders. The best part is we picked up exactly what she wanted...and she'll still talk trash about us later when we're not around. Ofcourse we know, because she runs down my wife's brother to us when he's not around even though he too is following orders. So crap. There is forty bucks down the drain with no real return or joy. Even worse her birthday is the following week. She has dictated that too. So now we've dropped about a hundred bucks on an ungrateful woman. I'm not sure that is what mother's day is all about. I do feel sorry for my wife. She has to find a card. Cards are required. The gift is worthless without the proper card, and it does have to be the right card. My mother in law will openly compare the cards from her 2 children and judge them as part of the celebrations. To make it worse my wife has to find a card that basically says, "I'm your daughter, I love you, but you've made my life crap for 30 years and still think I'm only six." but in a pretty way. Those are hard to find. Mother's day sucks. |

The moms of your kids should always get something. Why, because they are your kids mom. She suffers....he\she suffers. Plus it's a good way to show what kind of man your made of. Just don't get mushi with your ex.

The GF isn't mom, or step-mom, so really there's nothing from the kids unless they want to make something. It's their choice. Can't really make a judgement without knowing how long been together, how close to the kids, etc..
But definately have to get something for the ex FROM the kids. Nothing from you. Either help them make something, or buy something they can give.
