It's Liefeld that people have a problem with, him personally.
His work isn't necessarily it (although he hasn't grown as an artist over the years)... It's just that Liefeld is a jerk and his ego caused alot of problems through the years. He was so popular when he first hit because his style was so different from anything else out there. Not saying you're wrong per-se, just curious as to where the contradictory info comes from. |

McFarlane is a jerk as well (him I met personally).
Jim Lee is a great guy.

Troynos, don't get me wrong, as an artist I hate to ever put someone else down but here is my opinion regarding comics!
either.... Good story, bad art ( Aliens earth war anyone?) Awesome art, weak story or better yet.... Awesome art, awesome story! Considering books are anywhere from 3-4 dollars a piece now I have to be more selective. but id like to add another (my personal fav) awesome cover art, shitty interior (seems to be getting more and more common) ps anyone remember liefelds levis ads??? dude seriously....why???

I think it's because he packs too much awesomeness into his drawings.

Liefeld's popularity, IMHO, seemed to coincide with an overall emphasis on dramatic art for art's sake, as opposed to art working with plot and dialogue to form a story. In particular, the over-emphasis of art over story and plot. Liefeld sort of became the focal point of those complaints.
Also, Image was popular mostly with teenagers. Y'now, all the grinning theeth and bad attitude it's appealing to them. In the case of Liefeld, he's got anything. He's bad at anatomy, storytelling, page layout and sequence. He tried to make J Lee's art and he cloned every single character on marvel or DC. I don't hate him, i hate the guy that gave the ok for him. C'mon, Kieth's artwork is terrible too. The difference is that he's got a very personal and innovative style, and he knows how to make a good sequence. He's not a good drawer, but i like his work.

To me it was a combo of ego and work, the more self absorbed he got (putting it mildly) the worse his art and consepts got. Many of his characters looked exactly the same but then he was out toughting about being the greatest of all time.
McFarline had a similar problem with spawn and Prolwer (If you ever get the chance compair them, its kind of errie) but Mac knew when to get off the gas of the ego express (publicly) and fade back into the shadows. Plus Mac's backgrounds are hard to beat (Liefeild in contrast never really delt with background until recently). I was reading teen titans when he got the two issue stint on it, and I admit he impressed me with the improvements to his style, but then again saying that might feul that ego and then where are we. |

im a big fan of xforce but RLs art if it can be called that was and still is wrong. its just careless mistakes and often so out of proportion that its ridiculous. look at their thighs and uscle with bodies that large theyre f'in giants, and guns, holy mother, theyre running around with AA guns like i run around with my ipod. and the pic of cap makes me sad.... cap has a disease where his mody doesnt match and his chest is swollen... sigh
ive never met him in person, i chose to meet todd mcfarlane instead at the close of a con, but my friend said d-bag and i do too about todd. the only person worse in my opinion is elliot sadler from nascar, total 100% d-bag. want stories, PM me, he was the hometown hero... before i moved to fl

From what I could tell, both Todd and Rob were not very likable, having met both of them at SDCC in years past. I've crossed paths with Jim Lee several times in and out of SDCC and he's a real stand up guy! By far my favorite comic artist!
