Hi all,
I'm currently on the fence on what I should do. My cell phone contract recently expired and I am also in the market for a new phone. After looking at all of the plans that are out there I realized that while I did kind of want an iphone, I have NO INTEREST in paying for internet for my phone on a monthly basis. (Let's be honest that cuts into my toy buying budget). So after deciding on getting a basic phone just to use for talking and texting, I am now looking at getting an ipod touch. I've been good about saving and expenses so cost is not an issue. I already have an old ipod classic video but am interested in using all those interesting apps, games, and I guess there are some books as well as comic books you can read on there. I thought about an iPad, but I don't want something big. So my fellow 'Tankers, any thoughts?

My wife bought me one for Christmas of '08 and I have never received a better gadget/toy. I love the flexibility of it. I had two iPods before it that were stolen out of my car, so I was already a fan of the iPod line. I used to use a Palm as a digital organizer, so I use my iTouch for more than music. I also rip audiobooks for my commutes and traveling. I also download movies and tv episodes. I have some of the Joe 80's cartoons on here. I track my blood sugar and blood pressure on it, and use it to track my medications (I am falling apart after years of good livin'). I enjoy the wifi connectivity, but I don't need internet access so that isn't an issue. there is literally an app for 99.999% of every aspect of my life. It is part of work, family, play, and health. I even track my car's routine maintenance. The ONLY thing it doesn't do is track my GI Joe collection. I just bought a book on how to develop the apps (for non developer idiots like me). Go for as much GB as you can afford. If you have any questions just ask.

I was in the same boat. I started with a shuffle, then upgraded to a gen 1 Nano. When that died the Itouch (gen 2) had just hit. I was given a gift card for best buy at work and decided to buy an 8gig. I've never looked back. I'm really a visual person with my media. I had held out on fully converting my cd/tape/vinyl collection over for so long. But the screen is beautiful, I love how cover flow looks and works on the Itouch. Also, once you get used to the controls, you will never want to go back.
On the fly genius playlists, not to mention the games/apps are pretty good time killers. I really don't use mine for more than music though, that's what I bought it for. The only slight complaints that I would have would be the battery life. If you just put it on shuffle and leave it along, it will last for about 14 hours on a full charge. If you fiddling around with it, changing songs, using cover flow I can get as little as 8 hours from a good charge. The second would be size. With my shuffle/nano I could toss it in my pocket and roll out anywhere, the Itouch is a little bulkier and sometimes with what I'm wearing it's a little hard to carry around. I will say this, I'm planning on getting another. Though I'm waiting to see what apple does with the next gen Itouch. They usually make their announcements in June/July so I'm waiting to see what they have to offer then.

I love my iphone. So if you are against getting one, then I would recommend the ipod touch.

My g/f has an Ipod Touch that I bought her last X-mas, she loves it. Holds all her music and has some great apps that she uses at the gym and work.
I thought about the Iphone but went with the Palm Pre with Verizon. Has everything I need, a kick ass camera and tons of apps. |

Yes.
I'm in the same boat as you - I couldn't see the value of paying for internet service on top of my phone contract. PLUS, Verizon has better coverage in our area and I get an employee discount, so making the switch to AT&T was a negative. I got an NV3 for my phone and an iTouch. The iTouch is my first iPod and I love it. I love having my music library with me wherever I go. Watching movies during long flights is great and IDW comics are a HUGE plus for the Joe fan IMO! I also read NYTime and USAToday daily on my iTouch. I read books using the iTouch as a Kindle on the train. I like to travel light, so having all these capabilities in a device that can fit in my shirt pocket is awesome! Shortly after I bought mine, I bought one for my wife as a birthday present. She loves it as well and we're contemplating getting an iPad in the near future. |

iPod Touch is a godsend!
Like everyone else, didn't want to pay AT&T for crappy phone service, and was looking to cut costs anyway. iPod Touch does everything I wanted (music, apps galore)! Buy the largest you can afford; once you start loading it up, you'll be amazed how quickly you can eat space. Get some good headphones as well. If you're looking for a wireless set, I use the Sony DR-BT140Q Bluetooth wireless headphones. Not very sexy-looking but the sound quality is great, good battery life, and only wire is the one connecting the two earpieces. |

Thanks for the feedback guys, I think I'm going to get the 64gb one this weekend, I agree if you can afford the largest memory, you have to go for that.
Question... For those of you that do, how is it reading books and comics on there? Is there a wide selection of titles?
