that sucks! my checking account was almost wiped out once because of my debit card info, but i caught it early and cancelled my debit card, been ok since. i saw a purchase made for $1.14, something that said apple next to it. and said to myself.."huh?, i dont own an ipod or anything and dont have music on my iphone, and dont have my checking account linked to my iphone" googled it, and found out its a test thats run to see if the account is active, before they start using your funds. turns out my brother was hit with it before it happened to me, and someone was ordering coffee from canada and all kinds of crap with his money.

You know what would make for a good thread? A poll about how many of us are living paycheck-to-paycheck.
What's the definition of that concept, anyway? I mean, if I get salary, pay all my bills and living expenses, and put the rest in savings and/or investments, I essentially have $0 readily available at the end of the month...so am I living paycheck-to-paycheck? Also, my bank strongly discourages payapal connectivity to direct-debit accounts but was willing to set me up with a no-fee gift card-like account to which paypal is slaved. I can't send payment via paypal until I physically take cash out of the bank and add it to that other account. It's like those gift cards you can get from some banks. |

Like Gun said, 'paycheck to paycheck' is just that. You get a paycheck and it's all spent with nothing for savings or investments or anything like that.
Fhersanke, Paypal is as safe and secure as anything. Debit cards get hacked alot, even without being attached to Paypal or anything like that. The % of it happening is slim compared to the % of the safe and secure ones. I use paypal all the time and haven't had issues. So do thousands of others. It does happen. It does happen alot. But the chances are slim. It's like walking across the street. People do get hit and run over sometimes, but is it a high enough percentage to prevent you from walking across the street?

I thank god that me and my wife have several bank accounts and my paypal account is attached to one of our old accounts that we never keep more than 50 or 60 bucks in. My wife keeps a close eye on every transaction made on every account. I could buy a pack of cigs or a soda from mcdonalds, she wants the reciept.
I guess shes so cautious because back in Dec just before christmas my wife was robbed at gunpoint and her purse was taken.(i ALWAYS WARN HER NOT TO BE SO FLASHY BUT THATS A DIFFERENT STORY)in her purse(WHICH WAS A $300 COACH BAG) was $300 in cash,a $400 cell phone and several credit and debit cards. The crooks we're some how able to use one of the debit cards to get gas. Which I didnt understand, whenever I get gas with a debit card,I must enter a pin,how we're they able to get gas without entering the pin... |

Depends on the stations and pumps. Newer pumps require the pin and also having at least $70 in the account or it won't go thru.

That blows dude, sorry to hear that. :(
PP f*cking sucks, I hate using them, but what else is there that is universally accepted online? :( They f*cked me a couple of years ago b/c I used them to pay a gun dealer in another state for a Glock, since using their service to pay for firearms (which is TOTALLY legal BTW) is against THIER policy (PP's policy) they froze my PP account and then froze my bank account. Joke was on them though, I had it hooked to a second bank account I used for "fun money" and once they caught up to it, there was no $$ left in the account, they got like $0.30 in the end! Ha! So when they called me told me they had seized my account, I was like "fine, I hope you choke on it!" I tell EVERYONE I know that uses PP to set yourself up w/ a SEPARATE checking account JUST for PP if using them, and ONLY keep either as little as possible in it, or transfer over however much you need to pay for whatever at a time to it. I know this is pain in the ass, but trust me, you will be SO happy you did it if either my or the OP's situation happens to you! :( Hell, just get a second bank account at the same bank you already use for your regular checking and just transfer the $$ online so you don't have to go there and do it. I do it straight from my BB while on the go! HTH

Best bet is to just set up a seperate acount for PP. That would be the safest thing.

Try this, if you still going to use paypal in the future.
Open another account at another bank and designate that for purchases on eBay. That way you put whatever money you need to buy an item and keep it at a minimum balance; that way if you get hacked again all they can take is that bare minimum. My other concern for you is...does that mean your personal info got hacked as well?
