I'm not really sure what to do, or who is at fault (at least according to eBay). I had a buyer in California buy a Lego set from me, and the mailing address attached to both her Paypal account and eBay account were the same. I mailed the package via FedEx on 4-12-10, and it was received 4-16-10. Today I sent the buyer a message asking if everything was "ok", and she responds by saying that she hadn't received the package. She gives me an address to verify where I sent it, and it's not the address that was on Paypal/eBay. Have any of you guys had this problem before? This is all uncharted territory for me. Help me Tankers, you're my only hope.

Contact ebay and paypal and let them know what happened. Also let the buyer know where you sent it and why -- it could be an old address for them, but nonetheless, you are not at fault because if they paid through paypal, they have the option of putting which address they want it mailed to.

chances are it's at the post office annex closest to the actual address it was delivered to. they probably attempted to deliver it meaning the post lady/person/man/child/unicorn was all "hey they don't live here anymore"
and took it back to the post office where it usually sits for like 30 days (unless it's international)... so tell the buyer they can call usps and ask about itz whereabouts or can call the post office nearest their old address and see if it's on hold there.

The buyer is totally in the wrong. You are required to ship to the address in paypal and will lose any claims if you do not. The buyer doesn't have a leg to stand on here.

I sent it via FedEx, and the tracking information says it was left at the doorstep.
I wasn't sure how Paypal/eBay saw these things. I know they tend to side with the Buyer a lot of the time, and I was worried I was going to get shafted. So, I need to contact Paypal/eBay to let them know, or is that the Buyer's responsibility? The money is being held by Paypal until she leaves me positive feedback (or 21 days). I had something similiar happen to me with my entire collection of Sigma Six figures when I sold them. The buyer told me that they had not been received and wanted their money back. Because I was dumb and forgot to get delivery confirmation I had to pay - Ebay stated that if I could have verifed that the delivery was recieved I would have have been in the clear. Since it sounds as if you had delivery confirmation you should be good to go. |

You would be right in this situation, but jump on it fast and document it all via email in a calm, professional manner as ebay usually sides with buyers. Once the inevitable dispute comes about, you will have all of the correspondence showing you sent it to the address listed with paypal and communicated the facts to the buyer clearly as such.
Good luck and let us know how you do! |

yupp to all above. Paypal actually puts that disclaimer all over their site, only ship to Paypal confirmed addresses, never respond or mail an item to a non-paypal confirmed address or you would void your standing for a valid dispute.
You'll be fine, this is their policy. It is the buyer's responsibility to update their records.
