My first introduction to the Turtles was through the band ANTHRAX if you can believe it. Their guitarist at the time dan Spitz had a custom guitar with a few of them on it. A year or so later I worked for Kiddie City and they were the hot toy at the time. I remember parents slipping my their phone numbers and asking me to call them whenever the April O'Neil figure came in.
I thought the figures were cool but I was out of toys by that point. I did watch the cartoon (guilty pleasure I guess)....my sister in law claims to have a ton of the old vintage Turtles in her attic.....I've been trying to weasel them out of her for near ten years now. I did have a few of the retro 25th Anniversary figures but sold them when I couldn't complete the third wave (or were they cancelled???) of Foot Soldier, Casey Jones, Slash and Shredder.

I want to get the classic TMNT figures again myself for some reason and I almost had all four of them for $11.99 off of ebay, except...I slept past the end date and didn't make a bid. Only ONE person bid of them the whole time. ARGH.
How do I know it was the originals and not the re-releases (which I feel for some reason aren't as good as knowingly having the originals)? The guy also had the original profiles off the back of the classic packaging. >_O It's funny since I have all four of the turtles from the 2003 show, Fast Forward show, and even customized versions of the NECA ones. I have every figure minus the some that are really rare, but I have every vehicle and play-set. I had to re acquire everything since my mother sold all my stuff back in he day.

Good to see fans...I didnt see the whole CGI movie but on a tip off I saw the fight between Raph and Leo on youtube...I think Im gonna buy the movie now, looks really cool.
I went to the comic shop the other day and picked up the original Eastman and Lairds TMNT...I just read it for the 1st time last night. Why they put THAT book in section with the "kids comics" is beyond me....A woman gets violently beaten up, someone gets killed for it, revenge is sought on that person...theres more killing and blood...NOTHING like I thought it would be and really nothing like the cartoon I was watching as a kid. Now that I caught up with the Turtles I'm a little pissed its a Nickolodean thing....I dunno, it would've been better staying with the 200x stuff or even Fast Forward.. Hell...if they wanted to make it really "true"..they could do something after the 1st comic and put it on Adult Swim. As far as the toys go, I had the originals and Casey Jones...at that time I was too old or cool to be playing with toys, but I dug the cartoon so much I got em...I think they were the 1st toy I had that I bought purposely to put on a shelf in my room. If I can get the original accesories I'll be happy...so far, nothing! |

why did I sell the TMNT? There are a number of reasons, but first and foremost is that I have been doing this TMNT thing for twenty-five years, sixteen of them in partnership with TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman and the last nine as sole owner of the property. That is a long time. It is almost half my life (I'm 55). I never expected to be working on the same thing for this long. And it has worn me down. I am no longer that guy who carries his sketchbook around with him and draws in it every chance he gets. That guy did all of the pre-TMNT artwork you have been seeing on this blog in many of my "Blast from the Past" posts. I miss -- I really, really miss -- being that guy. My fervent hope is that by divesting myself of this wonderful but needful-of-constant-attention property, I might -- I just MIGHT -- get back to being that guy. Or something LIKE that guy. That's a pretty easy thing to accept. The guy wasn't doing it for money, he was doing it because he was a creative soul who was trying to create new things and Turtles was holding him back from doing that. Could you ever hear Lucas ever doing that? Man Star Wars is holding me back from creating new things |
