Scalpers are, to a varying degree, either scumbags or simply enablers.
Scalpers thrive on obsessions. If you hold the power to say "I want this- but I can't afford it right now, at this price, from this person. I should wait and shop around", then scalpers aren't your enemy. If they do get something to sell, they had the same opportunity that you had- if you wanted it that bad you should have pre-ordered or at least waited in line like everyone else (like the scalper did). Most business places beat scalpers by eliminating the number of purchases a person can make. Back where I am from, a person can only purchase one of each game system for Christmas and I think 2 of any individual game at any given time. We had a HUGE problem in the PS3/Wii years right before the holidays with scalpers (I think several places did), so that was the solution. If parents told their kids that Hannah Montana tickets or whatever items were too expensive, and explained the value of the dollar to children, we wouldn't have a scalper problem. But the moms and dads of America won't say "no" because kids are pacified with material possessions these days. In short, don't hate this guy. The place that would sell this many tickets to one person and the parents who are stupid enough to buy it are to blame. He's just a middle man. |

I see nothing outlandish here.. If dude bought these at retail, and listed the item, he's not making a fortune. (let's take one of the WM exclusives for example, which retailed from $14.99 to $17.99 depending on your WM location and pricing structure, as not all are the same, obviously). With tax, let's say he paid around $16 to $19. Ebay takes a sizeable percentage of the sale, so around $3-$4 for this auction. The BIN price is $24.99. He'll have to eat the paypal fees too, another $1.25 or so.
All said in done, there's really $0 profit from the buy at retail. Is it more than you would pay for it if you found it at WM? Sure! But if you could go find and buy it at a WM right now, you wouldn't need to buy it on ebay Nothing wrong with this, his prices are not that absurd.

How many more of these threads pointing out this eBay seller or that eBay seller listing Joe items at a markup do we really need? We all know there are people on eBay who sell items at a mark-up, as do many online retailers, LCBSs, 'Tankers, etc. Most people have weighed in on the subject. There's really not much of a equine cadaver left to assault at this point.
