Well I have been thinking. It pretty much comes down to this: Let her get those shots and take the chance of autism or not have her vaccinated and take the chance of her getting measles or mumps and dying. Plus boys are 4 times more likely to get autism than girls.

There was a good detailed article in Wired a few months back about the history of the controversy (a very pro-vaccination article).
An Epidemic of Fear: How Panicked Parents Skipping Shots Endangers Us All | Magazine One main point from it you might consider: the symptoms of autism tend to reveal themselves/become apparent around the time a kid turns two. Kids get vaccinated just before that period. That's why so many parents see a causal link, but all the evidence points to it being simple coincidence. |

I'm a teaching assistant working on my license to teach special education. One of my focuses will be autism. There is actually some really good advice here. Speak with your doctor. Speak with public educators in your community. Find autism groups in your community. Autism is complex and doesn't look exactly the same in any two people. Fact: your child can get very sick from not getting vaccines. That's all that is proven.

My boy just had his 15 month shots. How long do these supposedly legit studies say autism develops? He's fine so far. As a matter of fact, he just had his operation yesterday to remove his extra digit. The kid was all over the place when he got home yesterday like nothing happened! haha

Don't take my word for it, but last I read there was no proof that vaccines lead to autism, though some supposed this years ago. Recent studies have refuted many of these suppositions.

I am going into med-school, and i do know this, if the shots are given all at once too soon, it has been shown to lead to autism, in very few cases though, if you give her 1-2 shots per week she will have almost zero risk, hope this helps bro...

I would say "evidence suggests" as opposed to "shown", because I still don't think that this has been substantiated.

Yea, were going to request to have the shots spaced out instead of all at once, to play it the safest as possible.

As far as autism goes, pediatrics is not my specialty, but I do remember a few things from my rotations. Autism, if I remeber correctly, is a diagnosis of exclusion, meaning you have to rule out more easily diagnosed diseases, such as electrolyte imbalances, brain tumor, etc. There are criteria for autism, but they are fairly subjective, although lack of speech development is easy to determine. I think that sometimes misdiagnosis occurs because parents don't wanna hear and doctors don't wanna say "I'm not sure what's going on". Also, people like to find a cause for the effect. While it may seem that autism is on the rise, and people temporally connect vaccines with autism (i.e. My kid got vaccines and now they have autism), it's totally possible that autism existed before vaccines, but those kids were dying of polio and measles before thy could develop autism. All this being said, my children have had their vaccines, and thus far seem to be okay (ages 3 & 6). We did space out some of the vaccines, if I remember correctly, with our oldest, but I don't think we ddbwith our second. I don't know the answer, and I don't think anyone does, butbi haven't regretted getting the vaccines to this point.
