Nope, I snipe. It's completely fair, if the other person wanted it that bad they would have been there to do the same, or had someone watch it for them.
When I bid I never bid until the few seconds, I just watch it until its ready. When I bid, I enter the price Im willing to pay, and if someone wants it worse in those last few seconds then they can have it. Of course, I usually do buy it now anymore.

I think it's fair, and I don't think it should be changed. If people don't like it they should place their max bid at what they are willing to pay for the item they're bidding on.

It's simple really, bid what your willing to pay, not 50 cents less than what your willing to pay. Then you'll never get sniped, you'll only win or lose according to what your willing to pay.

how would you end sniping? not let people bid within the last five minutes? if that was the case, they'd snipe in the minutes before that. make it 10 minutes, they will do it in the five minutes before that.
you can't have an auction system if people aren't allowed to bid during a certain time period, because if so that time period is simply the end of the auction. well, auctions already have that, so nothing would change. |

you can't have an auction system if people aren't allowed to bid during a certain time period, because if so that time period is simply the end of the auction. well, auctions already have that, so nothing would change. What I said was that on other auction sites if someone places a bid with 5 minutes or less to go in the auction then the auction will go on for another 5 minutes past the time it was originally due to end. Like I said before I don't like the idea either. I just wanted to see what other people's opinions were on the matter. I wrote this after spending an extra hour bidding back and forth on an item at another auction site which sets the time to 5 minutes left when a bid is made in the final 5 minutes. Lets say there is :30 seconds left and someone makes a bid. The time left will now auctomatically switch back to counting down from 5 minutes left again. It keeps doing this over and over again until no one makes any more bids, just as a real auction would.

I just raise the price higher, thats how I end up winning even though I lost lots of bids when I first started.

No. Sniping helps deter shill bidding by sellers IMO.
