As long as nobody catches any "neck" you should be in the clear.
I walk or ride my bike to work everyday and have to change. I just close the office door and tell everyone don't come in unless they have an offer to make. Luckily I work with only broads. If your co workers have an issue with it they need to realize it is 2010. We have evolved as a society a little bit. Plus, I don't think there are any laws saying you can't change at work. Just don't waste company time doing it and they can't have any beef with you. |

Check with your boss. Sometimes there are businesses that consider it a loss prevention issue. Some places do not want their employees bringing extra clothes in bags. They consider it an avenue to allow theft of merchandise.

Interesting thread, especially after the conversation I had with my neighbor today.
This is a 40 something year old man who's been out of work for the past year and went for a job interview today. He says he was wearing a button down shirt with slacks to the interview. He goes on to say that the guy he was to inteview with told him he had to go home and put on a suit before he would be seen for the interview. |

When I was working as a stripper no one seemed to mind me taking off my clothes at work...
Seriously, I have this fight about once every 6 months at my job. I do work in a huge corporate office. But what I do has me at my desk about 98% of the time. I am your typical metal guy, jeans, boots/converse and a t shirt at home. Work is business casual, which means I usually wear pants and some sort of polo or sweater. I generally bring my work cloths in a bag with me to work, and change once I get here. Or I bring my home clothes and change before I leave (depending on what I'm doing). If they have a problem, tell them when, where and exactly how to **** themselves. I would even draw them a map.

Your co-workers are idiots. I have friends who do the same, or who cycle to work and then change at work. I don't know why that would even be worth making fun of. Maybe your co-workers are not imaginative enough, cause I'm sure there are better things to laugh about.

As long as the boss doesn't say anything...it's all good.

nobody is free to change as they please, there is no government mandated law that dictates someone has a right to do so, so it has nothing to do with freedom. you work at a job, probably at will, and as such you are bound by the rules that they see fit as long as they do not violate your rights. seeing as you do not have any rights to change at work, you aren't free to do so unless your job allows it.
if you work in a customer service job, some places don't want you coming in not in uniform because they don't want customers seeing you out of uniform. I've been through places where bags weren't allowed, you had to be dressed properly when you walk in the front door, hell...some places we had to go in through the back door since the front was for customers only. |
