as long as it doesn't interfere with your work
then it's fine. i've worked with a few people who come in at their scheduled time and spend 15 minutes 'getting ready to work' and then use the last 15 minutes of their shift 'getting ready to leave.'

The way you're doing it is fine. But there was an instance when I worked at a powder coating plant. This guy came in through a temp service and was slower and dumber than a rock rolling up a hill coated in honey. I had to "let him go", and he grabbed his duffle went to the rest room and came out dressed in all tight hot pink apparrel. A little netting on the shirt to boot. That fruit loop sashayed his way to the exit thinking he'd had the last laugh, but we laughed for weeks about it. That is the wrong way to do it.

It's only wrong if your boss says it's wrong.

Nah, I dont think you're wrong.
I got reprimanded once because I used to switch to my gym clothes when the shop was closing down and then..head to the gym. On fridays I used to get a bit ballsy and kick off my work boots and jeans for basketball shorts and nikes...but that was at like 2 PM...at that point it was looked at as me "not doing any work passed 2 on fridays" They were right |

I just came into work wearing shorts and a t-shirt. I had my work clothes to change into, but my co-workers laughed at me for it. I do this because I either show up early or do errands before work. Keep it mind its getting warmer and I don't like wearing black slacks while driving a truck with no a.c. So is it wrong to do it? I work at a cell phone store and not some big corporate office or anything. I just want to be relaxed til I work. My last 2 job we had lockers for it, the jobs where a sandwich shop and casino.
So am I in the wrong or are my co-workers being lame? Gotta be confortable man!

as long as the boss allows it, and you follow whatever rules they have in regards to doing such, there should be no issue. as long as you are changed and ready to work when your shift starts, what does it matter whether you do it at home, in the car, or an approved employee area where you are able to change?

I used to work at a hospit that tried to institute a "coming to work"
dress code, saying that while we were in our way into work, we couldn't wear certain things into work, like flip flops and blue jeans with holes in them because it reflected poorly on the hospital in front of patients. It caused a minor revolt because we pointed out that most of our patients dressed like this or worse. I guess they relented, but it never made any difference to me. If I wasn't on the clock, I wore what I wanted.

So am I in the wrong or are my co-workers being lame? I don't have to wear a uniform but I wouldn't go outside and wear my shit on the way to work. I'd do the exact same thing. Don't worry about them, they are probably just jealous that you thought of a better idea than they did. When I was 16, I was a cashier at Dominion (it is now Metro) and we had to wear the most ridiculous ties with pictures of fish and eggs and other random foods. Like hell I would wear that outside of work. The pants were black so it was fine but I changed tops. What a stupid tie that was. I think I have it in a box somewhere still. If I ever find, I'll have to take a pic of that ugly thing.
