Here's a toy-version of that real cool warbird, the TBF Avenger. This toy can actually fit G.I. Joes! How nice it can be if Hasbro made these cool warbirds for Joe's 50th anniversary (or maybe license it to a smaller toy company)?
Speaking of which, I believe ALL-GO! TOYS will re-release these cool warbirds hopefully sometime in the future... All-Go Toys Welcome to the MilitaryToyshop.com Last edited by Tuskegee Joe; 04-13-2010 at 02:17 AM.. |

Great pics......you may wanna contact the D-Day Museum or WWII museum in New Orleans about possibly donating copies of these pictures. I have been to them and they are fantastic musuems.
My Grand- Uncle gave my brothers and I his trophies from WWII. He fought in the European theater and gave us a bunch of Nazi pins and medals he picked up...as well as a Luger and bayonets. On of my grandfathers was in the Army-Air force and never really talked about the war and my other grandfather was in the Army but was dismissed for family hardship. He and my grandmother ended up working on the Higgins boats in New Orleans. |

Joe Rosenthal was a the photographer that took the famous Iwo Jima flag raising picture (subject of the both the book and the movie Flag of our Fathers). Many Americans at the time thought that the flag raising was the end of the Iwo Jima invasion. Unfortunately this is far from the truth. The war on Iwo Jima continued on for 32 days more after the flag raising and in fact three of the six flag raisers in the picture were killed in action in Iwo Jima.
Iwo Jima is one of the few engagements where the US had more casualties than the enemy. The Japanese had over 21,500 casualties while the US took over 26,000 dead or wounded. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. My grandfather spoke very highly of Rosenthal. I guess they used to play poker together while inbound for Iwo. My grandfather among several others were guest speakers for a dedication for Bradlys book Flags of our Fathers. When the movie came out I took my grandfather to see the movie and he could barely sit through it. He wanted to see letter from Iwo Jima but pasted away before he could. |
