I've had two paypal disputes when I was scammed. I think I got back some of my money on the 2nd one but the first one the guy already took his money and ran and the other one, the guy took some of the money out I guess, since I was able to get part of it back. Paypal says they will continue to try to get the rest of the money but that will never happen. It also takes 45(?)days for them to decide in your favor if there is no response from the seller. It's a long drawn out process that has yet to yield real results for me.

It can take up to 45 days to decide in your favor if you allow it to go that long. Once you file a dispute paypal holds the funds immediately, neither side gets it until either you close the case or they make a decision. After 7 days as a dispute you can escalate from a dispute to a claim. Once that is done, the seller has 11-12 days to respond before paypal makes a decision. So you can really get your money back much faster than 45 days.

Also, if you call them on the phone and can prove the guy is scamming multiple people you can get the dispute immediately escalated to a claim and stop him from receiving any more paypal payments. You need a certain amount of people who all know they're getting screwed over by the guy to do it. But in extreme cases it's nice to be able to shut a guy down from doing any further damage to people who haven't seen the warning threads.

This was yrs ago, but I did file one PayPal complaint/dispute. It took a couple of weeks, but I did get my money back. Easily have done 350 transactions on eBay/PayPal over the yrs and am lucky enough to remember only one bad situation...that ended up being resolved.

Now that I did not know... Something to think about. I've sent payments as personal a couple of times at the seller's request. I'm glad it didn't backfire one me.

i just had one not long ago. I got all my money back no problems. If it is thru ebay you might have a better chance but paypal protection is pretty good in my experience.

I've filed 2 disputes which were both escalated to claims and got my money back both times. Same old story, I sent the money the seller never sent the items. Last one I filed was for 2 Cobra Stingers I never got and even though the seller was no longer registered on ebay I still managed to get my money.Took around 2 weeks both times.

The only time I filed a paypal dispute I was screwed. I bought some figures from someone on here and I never got them. I filed the dispute and it was won in my favor. But the other person closed their bank account so I never got my money back.

I did file a couple and there were no problems. One was for a roughly $400-500 MISB Mauler, though, and they could only recover up to a certain amount.
The other two times (I think?) everything went smoothly. It takes a little while, though.
