I say we should just switch over to the G36 series. But frankly I'm in no position to make such a decision :P
From what I know about the HK416, It's in use by Delta and is basically the M4 in shape only; it utilizes a gas operated piston seen previously on my aforementioned sweetheart, the G36. The new system reduces malfunctions (such as jamming) and increases the life of the parts. According to Wikipedia. >.>

Yeah, definably good. Like if you had to bust a M-4 apart like that to clear a bad jam or something you'd melt your friggen hands.
Personally I'm more of a FN-Herstal SCAR-L or H fan myself. Last edited by ThunderKatt740; 03-25-2010 at 02:14 AM.. |

the m-4 is nice but i realy got tired of cleaning the dam thing when i was in iraq.but it had to be kept clean cause just a little sand grit will cause the bolt to jam up and you dont want that to happen when your life depends on it.
why do you think most of the weapons in the desert are the sks |

Last time I checked, SCAR's have seen limited use by SOC. I don't believe the HK's have seen active service. XM8 was an HK rifle, which the Army developed for a while and then dropped in order to pursue a rifle system with more in common with the current M4 family, but with much better dependability with less required maintenance.
My choice would be a gas piston driven (significantly reduced cleaning requirements and runs 100% cooler) M4 style (familiarity and commonality of parts) rifle in 6.8mm caliber (best choice to bridge the effectiveness of 5.56 and 7.62). IMO the LWRC M6A2+ series rifles (used by DEA and a number of LE departments) would be the best choice. LWRC REPRs for extended range (company sniper) duty at 7.62x51 NATO. IMO a militarized Robinson XCR in 6.8 (or 7.62x39 for clandestine ops) would be a good choice for special operations forces (has folding stock to reduce overall length for infil/exfil). All rifles selected can be procured with varying barrel lengths to accommodate mission and position w/ in teams. |

I'm not familiar with either of those weapons, nor do I have any personal experience with the M-16 or M-4 that is currently issued. I can only afford the old communist block stuff. When it comes to the brave men and women in the armed services they should be issued whatever is the absolute best. Not just in rifles, but all equipment, pay and benefits. There is no way I would want to be in a hot ass desert getting shot at by religious zealots. All U.S. soldiers have my unwavering support and gratitude. I wouldn't even mind paying higher taxes if I knew the money was going to be used to better equip and pay our soldiers.
