I know. That's what I thought. Thor would beat Superman. How he got by him, I have to basically chalk that up to name recognition more than anything. As for Flash and Spidey, I can see Spiderman winning, so it's not a huge upset or anything. I figure that one could go either way.

Thor hitting Superman in the head with his hammer, is akin to say, a normal guy being cracked in the head with a sledgehammer by Triple H at full strength. No way, no HOW Superman can fight when drooling into a cup.

First, let me say that anyone can beat anyone ... it all depends on the writer... now that that is out of the way....
How come whenever I hear any debate / discussion about Superman and Thor everyone always says... Superman's weakness is magic therefore Thor would win? Since when does vunerable equate to always beaten by? Supes has taken down more than his fair share of magic based opponents and is more than strong enough to go punch for punch. Toss in that Supes is faster than Thor and the fact that he would be more than worthy to weild /lift / use Mjolinir against Thor... I can't see how Supes losing is a no brainer. Quote:
Actually they aren't that equal. In his heyday, Superman moves planets. Thor doesn't. Even if you say that Superman has been depowered, he still has been amped up power wise sinse the depowering in 1986. Superman flies on his own. Thor doesn't. Superman can move at speeds that Thor cannot. How about when Thor tries to hammer Supes, he simply dodges and plummels him with about a thousand super fast .. super strong punches in a few seconds?
Actually, I don't think Thor's strength is magical at all (a la a character like Captain Marvel / Shazam). He is a Norse god. Perhaps, one could argue that the Odinforce gives Thor magical ability or enhancement but even so it isn't like that makes Thor unbeatable or all-powerful. Well he could smack Thor with it, which is all I was thinking he would do. It's a matter of opinion. If the story is told in a logical manner with regards to each character, and the outcome (while unlikely) makes sense, why is it poor writing? Is there some sort of comic-book-hero-chart that lists out who-can-beat-who? A previous post said that Spider-man beating the Flash made sense. Does it? If one looks at it merely one character against another, it doesn't. The Flash moves at near light speeds. Spider-Man would be out cold before he throws a punch or cracks a joke. Having said that, is there a story that could be told in which Spidey could take down the Flash in a relistic manner? Sure, I bet there is. but he would have to be able to hit him with it first. |

Joker could, concieveably beat Sabertooth, given all his gadgets. Hard to slash a guy to ribbons when your eyes are melted out of your skull form the acid.

Actually Thor's strength (most of it) is magical. He wears a magical belt that greatly increases his strength.
Batman is a good example of the "who's writing him determines the winner". In JLA Batman is the most feared super hero. Even the other heros fear him, same with the villians. But in Batman's own book, he gets thrown and beat around by common thugs, pyschotic guys without any power, etc... How can the same guy in one area be feared by Superman and another have common thugs land a couple punchs? There's no magical chart of who beats who, but some common sense and practicality needs to be applyed. Favortism has no place in determing a winner of these kind of fights. Needs to be approached with an open mind and practical thought. It's bad writing when someone forces a situation so their favorite hero (or the one they're writing) gets to win.

Since when? I believe the Red Hulk grabbed Thor's arm and overpowered him thus slamming his own hand / hammer into his face/body.

It depends on the set up. Personally, if the Hulk is determined / focused on bringing Batman down, Bats is going down. If it's just a mindless rampaging Hulk busting up downtown Gotham, perhaps Batman can think of a way to get him to stop / calm down - thus "beat" him. I agree with the general notion that over the years - in particular since O'Neil took over as caretaker of the Bat-titles - that Bats has become too unbeatable. Quote:
