Just wondering if anyone on the tank rides, whether it's street, dirt jumps, track or whatever? I'm just getting back into it and have to admit it's been an addiction that's almost on par with my joe collecting lol
Anyway as I get more involved with it I keep picking up more info as far as parts what to use what not to use...stuff like that. I joined up on a bmx forum but most of the people on there are younger smartass kids who just wanna punk me for being 34 and trying to get back into it haha So I figured I'd try the tank so I can be punked here as well but at least most of you are my age

I've been riding BMX on and off since the 80s (I'm 32) but haven't rode seriously for at least 5 years although I have recently dug my old bike out of my parents shed - a KHE Dirty Harry dirt bike. I've been thinking about selling it and building a street bike as the KHE is just too burly and heavy for street. Funny you should mention young kids cos when I got back into riding in the mid-90s most of the hardcore guys who ran the shops, parks, and wrote for the mags back then all seemed to be in their 30s!

sure when i was a kid lol.. jumping was a big part of me. i didn't do street, and always wanted to do a track, but the closest one was like a half hr away from me, and i had no way to get there or get any info on it, so i grew out of it a little before i got my license..
few years ago i picked up a sweet mountain bike wanting to just ride trails, only thing i would do on that was ride a wheelie for like a minute. i wasn't gonna romp on it like it was my old red line or goose, besides i'm older and can't afford hospital bills lol.. i have and old ass goose and a diamondback frames and forks in my shed, but you can't even buy parts for them bikes no more. shit changed alot. these frames are early 80's mid 80's, the db is a tank, i had the same bike as a kid and sold it. then years later i came accrossed the same kind at a yardsale and got it thinking i was gonna restore it haha. it had welded fork pegs and welded back pegs. it was more for freestyling when freestyling was becoming a hit, and bmx was dwindling. the goose was for bmxing. i miss jumping man, i remember back in like 92, my boy timmie came over and was like yo josh you gotta see this new kid mario on a bike man, so he brings the new kid mario over and this dude started doing some crazy shit in my street, then we took this kid to the jumps, there was this gigantic half pipe made of of dirt, and we would pull off 180's and shit lol thinkiing we kicked ass, this kid goes and pulls off a 360 with ease. this kid was sick.. his bike no lie was the lightest shit i ever seen, the rims were as skinny as a ten speeds. LOL me too and I've only been here 5 minutes. As for broken bones I've been lucky and never done that yet, even though I've done some stupid sh*t on a bike before. Broken my nose twice, but that had nothing to do with riding.

Ah man, we've already had conversations about this before. I loved BMX as a kid, then I even had an adult stint with it. A few years back I bought a Poverty Buck 99 and threw it in the back of my Blazer.
That was alot of fun. I worked at a motorcycle dealership for like 6 yrs and rode MX. Tooling around on a BMX bike was a great way to cross train..and a fun and healthy addiction. I still sweat that old powder blue and white GT Dyno...white snake belly tires and mags. I never had that bike, but damnit did I sweat the hell out of it. I stuck with Diamond Back and Mongoose for the most part as a kid...1/2 the time and 1/2 the fun was constantly interchaning and parts swaping with other kids and building a "franken-bike" My 1st bike was a Huffy Stu Thompson from Caldor lol...that bike was the heaviest f'ing thing I ever lifted in my life, when I got a DB I couldnt even believe it...it was like air in comparison!! The 1st bike that turned me on to BMX??...No doubt a Hutch Trick-Star. I saw my older friends brother have one and it was love at 1st sight. When pops took me to get one, the guy at the dealer actually talked my dad out of it, saying it was a horrible bike. I felt like punching that old man in the throat. Seriously, if I can find something cheap and in good condition that will fit in the back of my Cherokee...I'd go for it. Washington Sq Park in NYC during the summer...man, worth the train ride...ALOT of talent happening at night! |
