----Well, I’ve finally decided to free my Joes and Cobras from their plastic prisons. I’ve had everything on mint or near mint cards for the longest time, but they are no fun like that (and they look really unhappy). For the last week I’ve been cutting out file cards and filling ziplock baggies with figures (for now). I’ve been taking pictures of these liberating moments, I will post some this weekend. Let me tell you, this is the best thing I’ve ever done since collecting.
----Now, since all my cards hung from my wall (in their star cases, which will be for sale) I have to start thinking displays. I don’t like shelving (or dusting at that) so I’m building wall mount and corner displays. The first one I’m building is a 36”x 5”x 24” wooden wall display with a plexiglass front. I’m cutting the wood right now and will work with the plexiglass later this week. I want to take pictures along this journey to show people that it is fairly easy to do for very little money (if you have the basic tools). So far the wood cost me $17.00 and the plexiglass $16.00. I already have screws, nails, and wood glue in my supply cabinet. So throw a light in the price and you have a nice looking wall display for about $50.00 (that fits around 50 loose figures). ----First thing I did was draw out a basic diagram of measurements, that made it easy to know exactly how much wood and plexiglass I needed. Then I went to Home Depot and bought the supplies. The plexiglass was only $16.00 for a 30” x 36” sheet (you can’t beat that)! Now I am cutting the wood, include the groove for the plexiglass. Next I will cut the plexiglass. Then finally I will put it all together, step by step to help you along. If I use anything special I will list the exact product information to make it easier on you. Once all that’s completed, I will paint or stain the outside of the display, add the light, and add any hinges/hooks that are needed. Then it’s fun time, setting up my figures. I can do this in order or randomly, which ever looks the best I guess. ----I will try to update this regularly, but I am also remolding a bedroom right now. This weekend I will take pictures of the materials and tools, also I will throw in some of me freeing my figures! I hope this helps people out there trying to save a buck who want to make their figures look great! I’m not a carpenter, so if people want to throw in some ideas that’s fine. I do build a lot though, I own a side business making cornhole boards (so I have some experience in wood-working). Enjoy!
