Im thinking, come fall time, of enrolling in junior college for a beginners painting class. I just hope it won't be too difficult with the assignments/projects. and if they want a project of painting something plastic, I'll do a custom.

Kind of depends on what kind of program you're talking about. I've got a Bachelor of Fine Art in painting, but that may be a more broad approach than what you're talking about (it included art history and several other disciplines). I wouldn't be too concerned with how "difficult" the assignments will be, if it's focused on improving your skills with certain techniques, etc. Any more details on how the classes will be run?

Have you painted on your own? Is this something you want to do as a profession? To be introduced to the medium? As a hobby?
As others have said, I wouldn't sweat difficulty, since that's a subjective term anyway. But if you're completely new to art, you might want to do some coursework in drawing, 2D and color theory. This is not to say you can't go directly into a painting course, but you'll certainly get more out of the painting class with these other courses under your belt. Also, depending on your goals, you might want to find a local artists group or extension course to take. If you're not in it for the course credits, this might save you time and money by negating the need to enroll in a school. |

I once was in art school as a painter/photographer, dropped out for 5 years, went back to school for graphic design, graduated and now I'm making "the big bucks." (Not really)

Especially the Not Really part... I started in animation though. In my experience most art majors, aside from photography, culinary, and other obvious exclusions, have required basic courses that include at least some painting. I've never seen any 3-D painting aside from on fine-arts type sculptures |

I went to one of the top rated art colleges in the country (BFA Painting) and I have worked admissions for 2 other NASAD Accredited and AICAD schools. I basically know all there is to know about art schools. Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Colour theory is also very interesting. Even a quick understanding of complimentary colours will help a lot. This is all pretty basic stuff, but a lot of people don't know about it, and understanding it before you even start your classes will definitely give you a leg up on things.
